@fairydogmother Exactly!!! Also, in my opinion if you are going to travel with your pets a train is not the best choice... drive your own car or rent one so you can stop and take breaks as needed.

Many years ago I took the amtrak from KC to St. Louis, it was great with no problems.

It was the AutoTrain that started in Lorton, VA. It appears to have been a mishmash of AMTRAK problems. The original crew apparently had served the maximum time on duty. They had to call a crew that was "certified" to operate the train on the alternate routing around the derailment. Only AMTRAK could fail to extricate itself in a timely fashion.
