This makes me pause to consider a trip in one.  I don't understand why these collisions.

we need to know causes of today's and last week's collisions to draw any conclusions.

It  is easy to see why these accidents keep happening and how frequently they are. The infrastructure is crumbling in this country and funding to Amtrack has just recently been cut again.

'Seems to me' that some people just aren't paying attention.  With all of the tracking devices available now-a-days, it seems as though it would be easy to find out if another train is approaching withing several miles.  Enough time for both trains to stop and figure out things.  'I don't get it'.

An Amtrak passenger train apparently traveling on the

Wrong track collided with a parked freight train. Amtrak

engineer and conductor were killed.

It appears Amtrak was on the wrong track,South Carolina

Governor Henry McMaster told reporters. He said the

freight train, which had no one aboard, was on the track it

was supposed to be on.

Scary. We took the Auto-Train a few times. I remember that we had to pull over on a siding to allow a freight train to pass. They went by so fast and so close to our train that it gave me a bad feeling.

'Used to be' that someone at the depot or somewhere was in charge of train routings. Right?

Seriously, we, as a society, have become extremely distracted.  Slow to think and reason.  Perhaps something to do with our cognitive part(s) of the brain?  Maybe too many OTC m*dications?  Something, somewhere is 'off'.  'Could be' that the conductor was texting(?).  I'd like to know what investigations find. Jmo

RIP, and wishing all of the injured fast and complete recoveries.

Politicians know nothing.

I've ridden the Amtrak for many years, many miles.   In some areas of the routes, there are only freight rails.   Amtrak leases the rails from CSX or whomever and the freight trains have priority.   Amtrak goes on a siding until the freight train moves on.   This most likely was human error, trains not switched properly at the right time.
