And what we spent on manicures and makeup. Let’s not forget pantyhose and tights. I could always justify a new purchase because I need it for work.

 I can’t count the number of times I had to run to the store on my lunch and buy a pair of pantyhose because I got a run in them and didn’t have a spare pair in my desk.

I worked in a popular womens fashion chainstore in a mall for 13 years, back in the 1980s.

We were required to dress nice and were reviewed on that as part of our evaluations for raises.

I had many lovely outfits, and we all considered ourselves to be savvy shoppers (shopped the clearance).   Plus, the store had an annual promotion where we won store gift certicates to buy new clothes with.  We always got the sale price and our employee discount.

I remember with fondness many of those outfits.  I swear I can remember nearly every one of them, and sometimes I wished I had them back.  

I tried not to spend a lot, but I did spend money.

It costs money to make money.
