They might be graduating but that doesn't mean they're getting educated.
Kids today can't even read a clock unless it's digital. Here's hoping they do away with Common Core.
I also think cursive handwriting should still be taught.

Parents still bear a great deal of responsibility for educating their kids.
If they feel strongly that a child should write in cursive and read a numeric clock, then by all means step away from the TV or the computer and teach them!

It is certainly good news, but we do not need to pat ourselves on the shoulder. Only because it must be a norm in the richest country in the world in 21st century.

I would love to see the evidence and studies proving that.

@YorkieonmyPillow This is especially evident in their improper grammar.

Poor grammar is evident on bulletin boards populated by people who are middle age and older.

Hi loves! I completely agree with your statement and could expound citing some pretty astonishing examples, but think it best I leave it be.

We all have a tenancy to complain about the dumbing down of the education system here in America, I know I do! But our education is still the best in the world, and basically it is free. Sort of anyway. We do not have the class system most countries have. In some countries only upper class,or middle class can afford to educate their children. Most countries you have to pay a fee for education. Some countries, like England take you so far (9th grade i think), then you either go on to trade school or pay to go to school. I think when you turn 16 you don't have to go to school anymore. I know we pay in taxes, but our education is still better than other countries. I live in California near the Cupertino school district. Parents from Japan and Korea beg, borrow and LIE to get into r
Cupertino high school! Read about it. They have clamped down, and are scrutinizing students more, but it still happens. Japanese and Korean parents pay people in the school district boundaries to board their child, just to get into school. They even found a few years ago Japanese girls living alone at 16 in an apartment in Cupertino district just to go to high school. They send their kids to American Colleges. We are that good.
I think as Americans in the older category, we remember "the glory days", when we were the best of the best. Those in California know before prop 13 in 1979 we had the best schools in the entire US!
I still think we do a great job. I think more of our children go to college than other countries as well

It seems to be fashionable to bash young people in America. I remember when the target was those who are now in their 60s. Even worse things were said about them, in addition to questioning their intelligence.
