[ Edited ]

           HAPPY BIRTHDAY America!

"America the Beautiful"

Lyrics : (as sung by Ray Charles)

"Oh beautiful, for heroes proved,

In liberating strife,

Who more than self, their country loved,

And mercy more than life,

I'm singing about United

This America, sweet America, may God thy gold refine,

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain devined.

And you know when I was a little boy,

I remember we always sing it like this :

Oh beautiful, for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties,

Above the fruited plain,

America,America,

God done shed his grace on thee,

Oh yes He did,

He did He crowned thy good,oh don't you remember?

In a brotherhood,

From sea to shining sea.

You know, I wish I had somebody

    to help me sing this

America, I love you  America, you see,

My God he done shed his grace on thee,

And you oughta love him for it,

He, he, he, he, crowned thy good,

He told me he would, with brotherhood,

From sea to shining sea

Oh, yea Jesus, I want to thank you Lord.

RAY CHARLES!!!

   RAY CHARLES!!!

There isn't anything Ray Charles sang that I didn't love!!!!!  His rendition of Georgia is one of my favorites of his many great songs.  His version of America the Beautiful, so appropriate for this 4th of July, a celebration of our democracy and freedom, may it always be.

Happy 4th of July to all!!

My favorites:

Ray Charles'  "America"

and

Whitney Houston's "Star Spangled Banner", opening the 1991 SuperBowl

Both can be viewed on youtube.

They will raise your spirits.

@spiderw

Georgia on my Mind is, perhaps, my favorite.  My home state and I was way, way away from home when I heard that song for the first time.  We were serving Uncle Sam, our country.  I cried incessantly the first time since we left our former duty station, being sent to what seemed a God-forsaken assignment. Anywhere we went, I tried to grow where I was planted and I would tell my mother how happy I was, so she would not worry. I never let anyone, especially DH,  know I was unhappy.  He was on maneuvers when I heard this song so I was doubly sad, away from Georgia and my husband who was in a dangerous situation. Very young and no children at that time to hug.

You just can't help yourself can you? And you're wrong btw but alas delusions are hard to defeat.

England has a King and that's everything the Founding Fathers fought against. Have fun practicing your bowing and curtsies.
