Re: AmazonSmile will shut down on February 20th

I was vey disappointed to read this when I received their e-mail last night.  My charity is a Catholic church in upstate New York that take care of severely disabled children/adults and abused, troubled youth.  I will continue to donate to them, but increase my amount when I can.

I spoke with the president one of my animal charities whom I've been donating to for years and named on my Amazon smile told me the amount of money they received was neglible and basically Amazon was doing it more to make themselves look good.  Not surprised

Re: AmazonSmile will shut down on February 20th

I  was disappointed to get that email yesterday.  My charity was the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue.  This rescue receives no county support and relies on donations.  When the pandemic hit people went out and adopted these piggies and then when everyone went back to school and work they no longer wanted them.  They dumped them on guinea  pig rescues throughout the world.  Most of them never even left a donation with the rescue. Just here I don't want this animal any longer you can now take care of it.

We buy a lot from Amazon and I just felt that I was helping the rescue each time I purchased on Amazon Smile.  I won't drop Prime because I like the other benefits that we get with it but I think this is a lousy thing for Amazon to do.

I also am sad about the change. I and several local folks were helping a local animal shelter that relies 100% on donations. I also noticed today that free music available through Amazon Prime has changed. I do not know the details; I just ran into a problem today trying to play downloaded music that seems to have disappeared.  I then received information about changes that I have not yet read. I know that several individuals were complaining on Amazon's own help forum about the change. The only constant in life is change.

I received the email yesterday and I am not pleased.  My charity was the ASPCA.

I was so disappointed to get this email from Amazon last night.  I always went through smile.amazon, and had our local no-kill humane society set for my donations.

I'm disappointed as well.  My purchases were going for a local cat rescue. I'm hoping that Amazon's charities don't have an agenda.

Disappointed to hear this, not only for the charitiy I support, but for the many others and the employees losing their livelihood. I know their stock is really doing poorly also. If I had to guess, the CEO Bezos is skimming too much off the top and just like any business, it can't sustain well if that happens. Not that he has to ever worry. Bummer.

That's a great charity, mine was PETA and before that, World Wildlife Fund.
