Perhaps you should be willing to pay a little more and go with Instacart---Before the pandemic, I used to talk to the Instacart Shopper/Driver and many times its the same person that delivers my groceries and I thanked them for delivering my groceries which are heavy and include a 30 lb container of cat litter, 13lb bag of cat food, and other heavy items....One was a young girl....and I asked her how did she lift those heavy items....(when they park in front of the house they have to go down a long sidewalk and up a couple of steps to get to the front door) She said they are required to be able to lift a certain amount of weight....some use carts or dollies they've purchased on their own....but she said she's gained strength and has had to deliver cases of bottled water and very heavy quantities of things from Costco to Apartments that were on the fourth floor and that's a lot of stairs ....... Another Driver said that if there's a heavy order she has her college son help her carry the heavy stuff .....There's even a block to indicate any special delivery instructions!!!
There are other options and ways to get heavy stuff delivered....
I think the pandemic has given some companies the "contactless delivery" excuse to not bring things inside like furniture.... Even when QVC sells Lazy Boy Recliners or mattresses vendors say they will deliver as follows: When it's delivered, your product will be placed in your garage, or in the doorway or first entry of your home. In a shared entrance condo or apartment, the product will be delivered to the main lobby or building, not the individual unit. Assembly not included with delivery......And Ive heard hosts even say, well all you need is two people to easily carry it to a room of your choice or even upstairs ...So now you pay all this money and they dont even put it in the room where you want it to go nor do they assemble it...Yah right---a 70 lb chair🙄...That right there means NO SALE for me!!!

@AuntG I'm 99% sure the delivery person had a dolly on his truck but was probably too lazy to get it out and use it. Every delivery truck in America has a dolly; heck, I even have and use one. He could have zipped up those steps with a dolly. What if she'd been in an upstairs apartment? I've had heavy rugs, a refrigerator, and furniture that got to my front door just fine. Getting it there is part of the job.
In the case of a woman driver, she should not apply for the job if she can't do the lifting involved. Drivers are clearly told what they'll have to lift when hired. There are no concessions for sex.
Always amazed by how unkind you are. Clearly it is always all about you.

I would never call and complain about a situation like this. I commend the truck drivers and the hard work they do. Since the pandemic their workloads have increased significantly and they are working long hours. They are out in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions, yet people are unable to show a little kindness.

@RetRN I agree. If it wasn't for all of the delivery drivers this last year, we would have been in bad, bad shape. So many of us depended on them for food and other important things.
I would have let this less than perfect delivery slide.

@RetRN I don't find what @kachine624 said was unkind in any way. Jobs have certain requirements - for a reason! In the case of a delivery person, they are not just a driver they are delivering a package to the customer. Amazon in particular is all about delivering a good customer experience and I agree ideally that the op should not have to struggle with the package - that would not be part of a good customer experience. we all have our stories about this sort thing: weird, funny, bad, neglectful deliveries - some are more dramatic than others. Personally I really like and appreciate when I see that someone performs their job with care

I'm not understanding the problem. The package was delivered to your home. So, because no one else was home at the time, you opened the box and took things out. The problem was where you opened the box. I guess I never saw or expected any carrier to place things on my doorstep. In fact I would usually prefer they leave it by the garage. Guess it never occurred to me to complain when they don't.

The only thing that bothers me is when it's raining and they toss it to the edge of the top step where it gets rained on. But when the weather is good they manage to get it under the overhang right up against the door. They get it bass ackwards.

@RetRN thank you for saying what I thought about Kachina's response. I normally don't try to get in her face - sometimes I even agree with her! I just don't understand these people who have all the answers. It can get tiring at times.

@Spurt, I've had many recliners delivered, to include several La-Z-Boys. I find zero difficulty in opening the box and taking the two wrapped pieces out. Carry, or if you can't carry, slide one piece at a time. Put together at the location of your choice. Connect one piece onto the other. Couldn't be easier.
And no stranger is inside my home, tracking in outside debris, or inventorying my belongings.
