I get many deliveries from Amazon by people hired who use their own cars for delivery. I was walking to get the mail today and met the delivery guy at the end of my driveway. He handed me my package and a waft of cigarette stench hit me in the face when he rolled down his window. The package also reeked of smoke. So bad that my hand smelled of cigarettes just from holding the package! I had to put the outer packaging right out into recycle to get it out of the house...and wash my hands.
I think think this is just awful. My packages should not smell that bad. Drivers who smoke should not smoke in their cars with their deliveries in the car . They should smoke outside the car. I almost want to email Amazon about it. Do you think they would care?

@SeaMaiden Wow I get a lot of deliveries from them and never had that. I personally would call and tell them you want to file a complaint and ask them the best way to do that. Amazon likes to keep their customers happy.

FWIW, that's how my packages delivered by USPS arrive. My mail carrier is a great guy and very consistent about deliveries, but I guess driving all day is a very solitary job and he is a big time smoker. I guess there is no restriction about smoking in USPS delivery trucks.

My US mail guy smokes while he's walking on his route.
I don't think Amazon can stop people from smoking inside their own cars. Maybe if enough people complain, they can do something about it.

@queendiva That is what I was concerned about....that they would not care. I would hate having my daily mail smell like stench everyday! That must be awful!

No, but you may feel better having alerted them to the situation.

@SeaMaiden: It's only the parcels that smell bad, not the letters, bills, etc.

I get alot of packages from Amazon but only through the mail or UPS...................never by someone in a car....maybe that is something new they are starting?
I really wouldn't care for that myself.

Ok, this is - no. I'm surprised if this is allowed.
Maybe I've been fortunate, but I've never had that experience with any carrier at all. The only time I"ve ended up with merchandise that smelled like smoke (and I'm quite sensitive) was when I bought something from ebay and you didn't really get it (the outer part probably wore out during shipping) until you opened up the parcel and the merchandise smelled like smoke.
That was bad enough, but drivers shouldn't be allowed to smoke during the time they are on the clock. During a break or lunch, or whatever (NOT inside the vehicle), I have no right to expect it but while they are working - no, just no.

This shouldn't be allowed. There are some products, like clothes, that could absorb that smell and I would be mad. And I am sure Amazon wouldn't be happy if they were getting returns for smoke smell because their drivers are smoking in the car with the packages. I would definitely complain.
