Re: Amazon Prime Price Increase

Marp2. This will be my third year of Prime. I suspect the varying dates is due to the day the price increase goes into effect. Mine goes up on June 7th, so the price increase will likely take place sometime between your renewal in April and mine in June.

Question for those that will have an increase in 2014. How long have you been Prime members?

My first renewal date is coming up in April and my notice read, in part, "We are writing to provide you advance notice that the price of your Prime membership will be increasing in 2015. Your 2014 annual renewal will remain at the original price of $79. On April 7, 2015, your membership will renew at $99/year."

It seems that they are phasing in the increase.

Must be 14 or 15 years at least.

ETA I'm not sure if all of those years were Prime.

ETA ETA I looked it up. My Prime membership started in 2006.

Re: Amazon Prime Price Increase

I order a ton from Amazon...why(?) because I can not find much of what I need in the retail outlets. I was a bit disappointed last year because much of what I ordered was not on Prime. Now(?) I have noticed a huge increase of what I order can now be found on Prime. I do not care as a whole if something is here in 2 days...usually I am patient but it is a added benefit. What I love Prime for is the FREE shipping...being that shipping has gotten out of hand every where. So I will grit my teeth I renew.

I want to add... I find many times pricing is cheaper at Amazon as well.

Re: Amazon Prime Price Increase

I order on the average about $5,000 per year through Amazon easy. Amazon has not increased in 9 years and I will be glad to continue ordering as they have great service in every way. 2 day delivery is the best. I have NEVER had any problems throughout the 11 years that I have used amazon. My family/extended family and friends know to keep a wish list for me to select from or get ideas from. Amazon saves me lots of valuable time as well as providing the best selection and they have very competitive prices. It is. So nice to be able to order birthday presents and other gifts to out of town family members with my 2 day prime. I use amazon for my college age grandchildren and send some of their needs directly to their college dorm in 2 days. With grandchildren from 3 to 21 years old the gift giving is easy through Amazon for those that do not live in my city. I have 18 people that I shop for throughout the year and amazon has been a life saver many times.

Re: Amazon Prime Price Increase

Their website says if you order Prime within the next 7 days you will get the $79/year price, after that it will be $99. So I guess the price increase is effective March 21, 2014. My membership renews today so I'll still get the $79 price.

I'll have to see if I'm still ordering a lot to consider renewing at $99 next year. That's a 25% increase which is a lot all at once. I know they haven't increased the Prime membership in 7 years, but their prices for a lot of things are not as comparable to other shopping sites like they used to be.

Re: Amazon Prime Price Increase

I just renewed my Prime membership recently, so my e-mail from this morning states my rate goes up to $99 in February 2015. IMO still a tremendous bargain, considering the standard 2-day shipping (hear that Q?), not to mention the tons of instant streaming and Kindle bonuses. Like Marp mentioned it amounts to less than $10 a month for all the benefits. And unfortunately I'd spend that on turtle-speed shipping at the Q on 1 light-weight item.

Re: Amazon Prime Price Increase

I emailed them. The email reply says:

"...Any prime membership renewing after the April 17, 2014 will be charged according to the new prime rates…."

Re: Amazon Prime Price Increase

Croemer,

I don't know if you can renew early but you could try cancelling your current Prime membership and starting a new one. May or may not work but might be worth a try.
