Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

@Bridgegal, monthly I order two 32 can packs of Friskies pate.  Locally the cost per pack is about $4 higher than Amazon.  I live in a small town and there are not a lot of shopping options.

I haven't checked the price of Fancy Feast on Amazon lately but locally it sells for between 65 and 69 cents a can.

The litter I buy through Amazon is $9.99 for 27 pounds.  The 20 pound jug locally runs $7.98 on sale and $8/98 when it is not.  I believe the $9.99 price is exclusive to Prime members.

I also purchase Orijen through Amazon.  Locally it is only available through special order or a vet's office; Amazon is less expensive.

I have Prime and don't know what my "tipping point" would be.  Not only does it save me money it also saves me pain from having to lug heavy items.

Both the cat food and cat litter I buy on Amazon monthly are less expensive than I can get it locally.  Both are heavy items and having it delivered to my door, or in the case of the cat litter inside the door (thank you L.) in two days is worth the price of prime.

I'm curious what cat food you buy.  I checked Fancy Feast and Purina       one and both are around 10 cents a can higher on Amazon than      Wegmans and Giant where I shop in the Philly area.    And that's in the 24 pack.

The price on Amazon for Fancy Feast changes frequently. I've gotten the Fancy Feast Classic variety pack with the classic chicken, tender beef and turkey and giblets for as low as 9.50 a case of 24. Their everyday price is around 12.50 which is cheaper by 2 dollars a case than what I can buy it for locally if it's not on sale. When the price goes down to 9.50 I buy the max ( which is 5 cases) on both my account and my husbands account.

Amazon also has the cheapest price on Tidy Cat Breeze pads ( the 10 packs of 4) than buying them locally. But I recently started buying the pellets at Walmart when they started carrying them again at a cheaper price.

@I checked out that link and read the instructions. Do you know if @Nicknack will be able to watch the Free Amazon Movies etc?

Also, are these movies downloaded as a full programmed recording, or do that have to use streaming to be to watch them?

I got the impression that these would record to her TiVo, but that didn't seem clearly explained to me from what I read.

My Amazon Movie watching, which is via streaming, is strictly the Freebies. I dropped all my Premium Channels with Dish Network as I decided Netflix would be a whole lot cheaper per month.

I have watched several Free Amazon Prime Movies, but only the free ones.

Hey, thanks for helping out with this particular topic, I appreciate your help.

I haven't used the Prime movie streaming recently, because I use Netflix most of the time  on my Tivo, but it only streamed and did not download from what I remember when I used it before.  Now with Tivo and Netflix you can choose to have Tivo add the Netflix movie to your Tivo "now playing" list, but it doesn't actually download the movie. It's basically just a shortcut.

@jaxs mom  This is a really stupid question.  Does streaming mean that you have to watch it as it's streaming?  You can't download it and watch it later?  Does that go for Amazon and Netflix both?  I'm not really good at sitting down and watching a movie all the way through without a break or two.  I like to be able to stop the movie if I get a phone call and various things.

Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

This will be the end for me at Amazon as well.   I don't order as much from them as I used to because their prices seem to keep going up on the items I bought from there.  A prime membership would not pay for itself in this household.

I've also been noticing an increase in the "exclusively for Prime members" items listed on the site. It's starting to feel more like a Costco or Sams where you have to be a member to shop there.

I now order all my pet food from Chewy dot com. They have Fancy Feast and Origen there also Smiley Happy   They do have a minimum order to get free shipping there, but with pet food and treats and toys, etc it is very easy to meet that minimum. They ship quickly and their customer service is excellent.

My other formerly frequent Amazon purchases have gone back to local markets, vitacost, even walmart online. Most of them also have free shipping deals and better sales or discount codes..

I do miss the convenience of the one stop shopping at Amazon, but with all the changes they have made in the past couple of years, it's no longer the best fit for my needs.  I can see how Prime would still be a good value for other homes, though!

Streaming like watching live tv in the sense that the content is not stored on your cable box or computer. So no it's not downloaded into the hard drive of your Tivo. But you can pause the streaming content. On Netflix you can also stop watching part way through come back days or weeks later and it remembers where you stopped and asks if you want to continue where you left off or start over from the begining. I can't remember if Amazon movies remember where you stopped or not. It's been awhile.

Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

[ Edited ]

I love Amazon and have been ordering from them since 2000. I order almost everything from there. The prices for almost all my dog supplies are much much cheaper than I can get elsewhere, sometimes half the price as other places. For example, the Phycox Max 90 Count Canine Soft Chews is $38 but at my vets it is $80!

I order workout clothes for amazingly low prices as well as food, gifts, household supplies, makeup, personal products, books, etc  It is my all-purpose shopping place and I can easily reach $49 min order although I am disappointed it went up. I remember when it was only $25 min for free shipping. But the values are exceptional still and it has saved me alot of money over the years. I absolutely love Amazon. The day I no longer get good deals is the day I stop shopping from there but the $49 min won't discourage me because I can easily get there with just two of my dog's supplies they use on a daily basis.

Also, for things I want or need or use daily but don't need right away, I put in my cart and wait because the prices go up and down almost daily on their items and when they are really good prices, I buy.

Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

Amazon had a sale price for Prime membership a few months ago. If anyone is interested you can look on retail me not or BGR dot you know what. Often times they offer new members, prime membership after Amazon wins an award for their original series. HTH

Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

I only shop Amazon anymore at Christmas. I used to buy a lot of music on there but no more! I stopped when they raised the minimum to 35. I buy my music at the record shop or Target now. Yes I still prefer cds and vinyl (at record store).

For me to pay for Prime is not worth it. At Christmas I will meet he minimum amount but other times of the year, nope. So oh well, its Amazons loss.

That is a good price on litter.  I'm going to check that out.   I pay between 53-58 cents a can for FF at Wegmans   and .58 at Giant and I always have a coupon for Giant.  I think on Amazon in the box, it worked out to 68 cents a can.  Thanks for answering.

Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

Been a very satisfied Amazon member since 2005, and a Prime member since 2010.

For those that are homebound Prime memebership is fantastic, and even can sometimes literally be a lifesaver for them and/or their pets.

The enormous variety of health and pet items alone  is worth being an Amazon customer.  8)
