@Nicknack wrote:Is there any way to tell if an item is eligible for Prime before you sign up for Prime? I've looked at several items that I'm interested in, but they don't say anything about Prime. I'm thinking you have to sign up first. Are there any specific types of things that usually aren't eligible? If it's not specifically sold by Amazon, does that mean it's not eligible for Prime shipping?
Generally most things shipped by Amazon are Prime-eligible (maybe not huge heavy items like furniture).
Try looking something you want up, and on the left side of the screen somewhere, one of the options it gives for sorting is "refine by Amazon Prime." If you click that, it should show you only Prime-eligible choices.
For example - many times an item can be purchased from many sources, some Prime-eligible and some not. You could then choose. But some items are not shipped by Amazon but ONLY third-party sellers, and those are not eligible. Hope this helps.
Thank you @Moonchilde! I've never noticed that in the options before.
I had to sign out in order to notice it. You're right, because I'm a Prime member, when I'm signed in it says "Prime Eligible" right next to the price of the item, easy to spot, but when the site doesn't recognize me as a Prime Member it's harder to see right away. I think that's a dumb move. I imagine lots of people, like you, want to be able to easily and simply tell whether their staple items are eligible or not before they buy Prime. If it's too much trouble to look, people will end up saying nah, never mind.
Also - on the Order/Price right hand side of the page, if it says "Yes I want free 2-day shipping with Amazon Prime" with a place for you to check mark, then it is an Eligible item.

I wonder if some people might be confusing 'non-Prime' items with Prime items and being surprised that they don't arrive as quickly.
I only say that because in all the years I've had Prime it continues to perform exactly the same. I can remember two items that didn't arrive in the two days, in the last year. One was a weather-related problem and the other I don't know what happened. In both cases, I did receive the items the very next day (day #3).
Also, one must contemplate that the two days of which they speak means two 'business' days. This will preclude holidays and Sundays and if it's going by UPS or FedEx Ground it would also preclude Saturdays. The day you order is day ZERO. The next business day is day ONE, etc. ![]()

@chickenbutt No I know I'm not confusing the two. I called them recently, and they were very good about it. They said they would look into it. The two Items that I ordered since then came in the two days. The others are ordering "out of a warehouse" located outside the two day shipping possibility for my location per the CS rep.. They issued me a credit. I don't think they should promise two day and deliver on the promise for a "certain geographic location" only. It doesn't say that anywhere when I order prime eligible items.

I know that I'm fully aware.

lol as am I. I don' t have Prime but my mom does and she said over the years, Prime is definitely not getting there as fast as it is supposed to now. She says many of her Prime items are getting there in 3-4 business days instead of the promised two. When she asks CS, they say that sometimes it has to come from a different distribution center further away so it will take longer. Well, she paid for 2 day shipping so it should be 2 days. If they can't guarantee that, then don't mark it as a "prime eligible" item!!
And yes, I think we all know that 2 days means 2 business days. But if mom orders on Monday and doesn't get it until Friday, that is certainly more than 2 business days. She is getting frustrated with it now since the delayed shipping is happening more and more. I think we can all forgive delays due to weather but this is not what is happening for the most part. What is the point of 2 day shipping and paying $99 a year for it if items are only arriving one day earlier than regular shipping (which she said is often the case lately)?

Hey Moonchilde! I hope you didn't think that I was meaning to 'talk down' to anybody. I totally wasn't.
I just wanted to make sure that people fully understood and I tend to not be very good at flowering my talk up.
I just kind of spit it right out - straight up. No ill-will intended.

@skuggles yes this is exactly what my mom said they told her too! There is nothing that indicates, as you state, that the 2 day is certain geographic locations only.

I just logged onto Amazon, and the minimum for free shipping for books is $25.00. I put 2 books in my shopping cart for about $28, and they gave me free shipping. Barnes & Nobles gives you free shipping if you spend $25.....so maybe Amazon has dropped their minimum for books, to compete with B&N.

Oh no, I was fine :-) And you're right, some people don't know.
I'm moving in 2 weeks, and at my new address I highly doubt most of my Prime orders will arrive in 2 days. OTOH I was shocked that while I was there at Xmas something DID come in something like a day and a half.

That doesn't sound good, unless they make it clear up front. I've never heard that only certain areas have the two-day thing. I imagine there might be certain areas that are more complicated and maybe two-day delivery isn't possible but I'd like to think that when you check out it gives you an accurate ETA.
I live adjacent to a small city - pretty small, like maybe a pop of 250,000 - and have yet to have problems. But to be fair, there is an Amazon warehouse not far from me so some of the categories from which I order are stocked there, making it beyond easy to get it there in two days - often one.
