Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

Yes, it was $35.  That is a big jump to $49.  Maybe they are  trying to interest people into joining Amazon Prime.  I did the 30-day free Prime trial over the holidays to get free 2-day shipping with no minimum purchase amount.

I've tried the 30-day free Prime in the past (a couple of years ago) and I just don't buy enough from them to make it worthwhile.   I think using Apple devices makes it less worth the cost, but maybe I need to learn more about how it's valuable with those devices.   With just one person in my household, and in doing some comparison of prices, right now I don't see a benefit to paying a monthly fee and there's not much I want to buy from Amazon.   And the occasional purchases...  I wait and buy several things at once, so I still get free shipping even with the limit increase.   I have noticed the shipping is slower than it used to be, so maybe they are putting the non-Prime members' orders on the slow train.   Their customer service is very good, though, and I haven't seen that changing.

Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

[ Edited ]

Yep, they did, but at least they still have one... And once you reach it, you don't pay for each and every item separately, no matter how they come packaged... Moreover, all this means to me is I'll wait until I reach the minimum before ordering and so that might mean longer between orders. Given the variety over there, there's little doubt the minimum will be attainable.  As for Prime. I drank the Kool-Aid this time around when they were running their promotion special and think it's a big waste of money. First, I'm not a big streamer or downloader, so that's hardly worth it for me. As for two-day shipping, it pretty clearly doesn't include items fulfilled by third party vendors and for items coming from Amazon, their shipping is usually reasonably timely in the first place. Having it doesn't really seem to have sped up shipping noticeably.  As for Prime benefits when ordering from Amazon companies, like My Habit, they're virtually non-starters. As of now, I won't be renewing next year.

@chickenbutt No I know I'm not confusing the two. I called them recently, and they were very good about it. They said they would look into it. The two Items that I ordered since then came in the two days. The others are ordering "out of a warehouse" located outside the two day shipping possibility for my location per the CS rep.. They issued me a credit. I don't think they should promise two day and deliver on the promise for a "certain geographic location" only. It doesn't say that anywhere when I order prime eligible items.

@skuggles yes this is exactly what my mom said they told her too! There is nothing that indicates, as you state, that the 2 day is certain geographic locations only.

That doesn't sound good, unless they make it clear up front.  I've never heard that only certain areas have the two-day thing.  I imagine there might be certain areas that are more complicated and maybe two-day delivery isn't possible but I'd like to think that when you check out it gives you an accurate ETA.

I live adjacent to a small city - pretty small, like maybe a pop of 250,000 - and have yet to have problems.  But to be fair, there is an Amazon warehouse not far from me so some of the categories from which I order are stocked there, making it beyond easy to get it there in two days - often one.

I'm moving from a population of 4+ million to 18,000.  Quite a drop ;-(

@Moonchilde If it is any consolation, that area is one of my favorite places in the world. I love Monterey, Carmel, Aptos, Santa Cruz.  I have many many wonderful memories there.

@HappyDaze, I only "discovered" Aptos & Capitola my last two visits, and Capitola will be on my permanent list of spots to go. And Felton - I've fallen in love with the Big Trees railroad. I haven't made it to Santa Cruz proper yet.

So it has gone from $25 to $35 to $49 in a very short time.  I purchase items at Amazon that I could purchase elsewhere to get free shipping.  Guess that will stop for me.

Yep, this is me.

I was looking at things just the other day, and now I'll consider going elsewhere.

I won't be forced to get the Prime, because I go long periods of time and don't order from Amazon. With the prime, I'd feel like I need to buy stuff just because I paid for it.

Amazon isn't my favorite retailer anyway, as I've had plenty of problems with my orders in the past, but it was a great option for no shipping on relatively small orders.

Guess not so much anymore.

Oh wow, Moonchilde!  Your life will probably be VERY different, eh?  I hope you LOVE where you move.   Nothing worse than moving and hoping for a fresh start in a new place, or just a pleasant new place, and finding yourself in h-e-double-L.

Since you've spent time there, however, it sounds like you have it dialed in.  Smiley Happy

I'll never move again, sadly, but if I could I would love to live in the Monterey Bay area - either Monterey or Pacific Grove.  I love it there so much.  It's a little bigger there than here, I suppose, and more expensive.  But I'd be near my beloved Pacific Ocean and I've always loved that area.

Anyway, best to ya!!  Heart

Thanks, @chickenbutt 😎

I seem to remember now that we've discussed this before. I will be within 35-40 minutes drive of Monterey & Pacific Grove 😍, just north of Salinas. I will be in Monterey/PG often, and planning trips to San Jose and other reachable areas.

I love the area, but the small town aspect where I will be means almost no fast food or big chain stores without a bit of a drive, instead of down the street 😟  But Marina is getting an In-n-Out!

@Moonchilde, one of my sisters used to live in California and she's talked about how wonderful your new home is!  (She was in LA, and that wasn't one of her favorite places to live.)   I hope the small-town locale will have more good than bad -- I've lived in both (Dallas being the largest), and honestly I liked the smaller towns better overall.   I guess you know moving is one of the biggest stressors in our life, so I'm sending good vibes your way as you make the big move!

Thanks, @dooBdoo. I'm LA born and raised, very city-oriented, but sick to death of traffic, the price of rent and utilities, crowds, and paying to park to go anywhere. I can't wait to get out of the madness. And it won't be more than 45-60 minutes to a big(ger) city.

Re: Amazon Has Raised Its Minimum Order Price

I don't do as much shopping on amazon as I used to. I have enough time to do a lot of price comparison and about 50% of the time I can find things less than Amazon. I am tired of trying to add something I don't really need for the $35 and $49 is a real stretch.

As far as prime I considered it during the last special but the streaming which would be a draw really didn't have much I was interested in. I'm also in a rural area so no fast delivery or grocery options.

I'll probably just shop there less.

Hey Moonchilde!  I hope you didn't think that I was meaning to 'talk down' to anybody.  I totally wasn't.

I just wanted to make sure that people fully understood and I tend to not be very good at flowering my talk up.  Smiley Happy   I just kind of spit it right out - straight up.  No ill-will intended.

Oh no, I was fine :-) And you're right, some people don't know.

I'm moving in 2 weeks, and at my new address I highly doubt most of my Prime orders will arrive in 2 days. OTOH I was shocked that while I was there at Xmas something DID come in something like a day and a half.

Thanks!  Smiley Happy   I never know when I might inadvertently insult somebody here.    I always want to make sure that people understand that what I say is EXACTLY what I'm saying.  If I am trying to be insulting, that should also be very clear.  hehe   But I think we probably understand each other enough to get that.   Just wanted to be sure.

Bihtch.
