Re: Amazon HQ2 announcement probable this month

Oh, well....Crystal City is just fine.  I don't live in Virginia but rather Maryland.  I really didn't think Amazon would come to my parts.  Maryland is a suburb of the DC area just like Virginia is.  Where Crystal City is.

@golding76

I'm in Southern MD and commuted to DC for close to 38 years.  I knew several who commuted to CC from this area, so they would bus and subway every day. It took me close to 2 hours one way some days.

It's not a bad area, but there is already so much traffic.  Unless you live in the same building, I cannot imagine working there Cat LOL

I have not been into DC since I retired in 2010, and it's been longer than that since I was in CC.

If Atlanta is still on the list, I'll pay extra on my next order if they'll cross it off.  There is no meaningful public transportation here and no way to get any more traffic on the roads.

Re: Amazon HQ2 announcement probable this month

Pittsburgh has been mentioned several times.  We have a very nice airport, affordable housing but the city's infrastructure is badly in need of repair.  Many communities around the city have problems with the drinking water and mine subsidence is causing major problems.  Plus downtown Pittsburgh has lost almost all of the retail stores and the traffic patterns are a maze of one-way streets, bus lanes and now bicycle lanes that are a horror.  The mayor has kept all negotiations strictly under wraps because of the tax-incentives..We must have an Amazon warehouse close because my deliveries are usually less than 2 days.

Near the Pentagon; geez what a nightmare that is going to be for those who commute to that location. If he wants NOVA, there are far better places than Crystal City. but...who knows.

As long as he stays out of MD. Just stay out. That's all I ask.

Per CNBC/Dow Jones - Amazon to split HQ2 evenly between 2 cities due to lack of tech talent in one city.  Expected to announce the 2 new locations as soon as this week.

Sounds to me like it's Crystal City.  Near DC.  Lots of open land to build.  Near tony areas of Northern VA and Maryland. Near impossible to build in New York City.  Maybe up in the state, but the weather gets bad in the winter.  So my bets are on Crystal City.

Before my commenting, I did read up a little about plans for a new HQ2.. From what I've read on the forums here, CC is already so congested with traffic.. I wouldn't like spending my time commuting 2 hrs to & from work..

If Bezos wants to help people; IMHO, he should go to a depressed area & help revitalize it along with the community itself...

If it will be creating, (  per the articles I read), 50,000 jobs; IMHO, Bezos, may feel people will not want to relocate to a depressed area.. Yes, I understand he's a businessman; but he has the power to do so much good in a community that would help people & other small already existing businesses with the influx of new residents moving there.. For example; new housing, new eateries will open up, etc..

This is just my very humble opinion.. I truly believe in helping people & businesses in areas that need it the most..

I'm not a fan of Amazon at all; nor Bezos for that matter; but if I had his money ( which would last 1000 lifetimes ), I would focus, yes, on furthering the profitability of the company, but on the same hand, having so much power, I would work for the greater good for man.. JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION!!
