Re: Amazon Forums Going Bye-Bye

Add me to the list of not knowing Amazon had forums.

As for these forums, I have been around since the inception.  I believe it was back in 1999 or so.  People have been talking since then about QVC closing these forums because they were too contentious, etc.

Re: Amazon Forums Going Bye-Bye

I was very active on the Amazon forum during the months of October, November and December, for NaNoWriMo for several years. I had great difficulty finding forums last year. The Amazon Nano forum was a great source of support for those of us that participate in the November writing challenge.  Now I know why I couldn't locate it.  It is a shame this is happening.

FYI.............this forum is shut down already. It's so bleached, trite, humdrum, very little of interest here.

Re: Amazon Forums Going Bye-Bye

Ha Ha   I didn't know that Amazon had a forum and I've been with Amazon since 2002.  So, I suppose I won't muss it.

@Moonchilde........I thought I had searched Amazon site throughly but I never found any forums.  Where are they located and what do you click on to find them?

@Imaoldhippie, I don’t know when you searched, but they’ve been “hiding” them on the site for about the past 16-18 months or so. It used to be that there were links and lists in small print at the bottom of the page with Community or Discussion, and once you clicked on those there was a list. For the past year and a half almost the only way you could find some of them was if you had them bookmarked.

You can put me down as another one that didn't know Amazon had forums. And I've been a Prime member for years! I doubt I would be an active member anyways. If I need something I check out the item, price and reviews,  either buy it or not.  Then I'm done and exit the site. So closing their forums is not a big deal to me.  Didn't know they were there, wouldn't participate anyway.

The current “forum” that Amazon wants people to use instead of the larger network of forums, called Spark, is for Prime Members only. But the long-running Amazon forums have been for everyone.

I'll miss the ABNA forum on Amazon. There are still a number of us who participated in the old Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards who still inhabit the place. Some of the wittiest, smartest, funnniest people I've ever met inhabited those forums and you couldn't find a more supportive and giving group anywhere in the world.

I didn't even know Amazon had forums.  Looks like I missed out on a wonderful community.

Not every forum on Amazon was a warm and friendly place, some are war zones, but the ABNA forum was a special place. I'll miss it and the characters there.

Maybe you could set up your own board for the *characters*, @gardenman.

On the Kindle forum and self-published author forum there are several years-long running social threads just like those on the QVC forums in Among Friends. Those people are devastated, and most have made arrangements to create/join FB groups or Goodread groups or elsewhere so they can continue to chew the fat. I’m sure that gardenman’s group could try that.

Starbucks has just closed its online store. No notice. Strange doings.

I thought the Amazon forums were of most value to its third-party sellers, not buyers. I never used them as a buyer, but found the seller discussions helpful at times.

I noticed the Starbucks closure as well. I can only guess that people just didn’t buy from the website. There are a bazillion stores available to buy in, even in the boonies. If my area has a Starbucks, Timbuktu could have one.

And there's that.
