I ordered an office chair to be delivered to my home. I waited home all day to receive the chair but it was never delivered. I called Amazon customer service and they put me on the line with USPS and we arranged a date for delivery. I stayed home to take delivery of the chair and when the mail lady came she said she could not take it on her truck because it was "too big". I ended up going to get the chair at the USPS annex but I had to pay someone to help me. I paid him $20 to help. The box was not huge and the weight was 46 lbs. . It fit in the back of my SUV without putting the seats down. I notified Amazon that they probably should not ship this item USPS because USPS said they could not deliver it. By this time, I stayed home 2 days and had to find help getting the chair. Amazon did not seem to care, they would not refund money without a receipt for the help that I got. I am not happy. The chair cost me an extra $20. This was the first time I ever had problems with Amazon.

I have a feeling we will be hearing more and more of these stories about Amazon....

I wouldn't expect them to reimburse you for what sounds pretty much like a tip... What I do hope, though, is that mail order retailers will soon realize that some shipping entities are not doing their businesses any favors. USPS is one and FedEx is often another... I live in a condominium and recently the FedEx drivers, with just a few exceptions, are not even trying to deliver goods to customer's doors, but are dropping everything at the management office for us to go and pick up. Fine, if I'm not at home, leave it at the office, but at least make the effort... The USPS has been doing this for years... I'm sure it's a whole lot easier for them but it isn't for customers and will ultimately impact the retailers who are relying on them for good service... This isn't what they are being paid to do... If I have to go and pick up a package in a different building and schlep it up to my apartment, I might just as well have gone shopping for it... It defeats the purpose of mail order shopping and of supposed home delivery...

@conlt I'm just thinking "out loud" here, but I kind of think your problem stems from USPS, not Amazon. If I were you, I'd look into filing a complaint.

I agree with you 100% about UPS and FedX. I also live in an apartment and my packages are delivered to the office. There is also a Prime delivery truck here but that driver also just drops it off i the office. Seems like that driver is just lazy!!

@conlt Did USPS actually charge you $20 to help you get the chair to your car, or did you tip him $20? They should never have charged you or even accepted the tip.

m to find my house, even though we've bee through this many times. My neighbors are nice , but this is an inconvenience for them and me.

@QVCkitty1, I don't like FedEx either, I have too many problems with them. Target ships FedEx, I won't order anything from Target for delivery any more, I'll do an online order & do store pickup. It's inconvenient for me, but I'd rather do that than deal with FedEx.
They also don't let you know just where the driver left the package (or packages), you're sent an e-mail stating that the package has been delivered & the date/time it was delivered. Now if they happen to deliver something, I know to look in my backyard or outside my fence.
I have a 6 foot high privacy fence. For bigger packages, FedEx stacks them outside the back gate. If it's a smaller package, they throw it over the fence. One time I ordered 6 boxes of 28 lb kitty litter, which FedEx stacked outside my back fence. I had to lug the litter into my house, one box at a time. By the time I was done, my heart rate was in the 160's, which isn't good.

I agree. The problem isn't with Amazon it's with the company they trusted to do a job that wasn't well done. It's good to let Amazon know so perhaps they can consider alteratives, but it was the postal service who didn't deliver...

With some exceptions, FedEx has also been missing 'guaranteed' delivery deadlines, sometimes by several days... I recently ordered from a company that has always provided 2-3 day delivery... The most recent order was sent FedEx and it took five days... They sent the item to a depot in a city an hour away from me and from there to a depot in a city about 3 hours away from me and delivered it from there... Added an extra day to the delivery... Go figure...
