This is not "what might happen in the future," it is happening now.  Perhaps if the existence of Amazon hurts YOUR income, you might think twice about it.  We can not all work for Amazon, and Amazon can not match the pay of those who lost their jobs and businesses due to the size and scoop of Amazon.

Retail stores have always been in a state of change, one way of another.

Major department stores like Macys and Sears haven't been able to keep up.  Most of America has embraced online shopping.  People don't want to spend time wandering the malls anymore, it's a waste of time an energy, much easier to view items online and hit send.

You can't blame Amazon, there are way too many other giants already, like Etsy and dBay.

Stores like Walmart have caught on and are competing with Amazon.

First rule of physics: The only constant is change.

Well Duh, I know all that.  But there are businesses, not just stores, that you are not even aware of that are hurt by Amazon, and there is not a darn thing that can be done about it.

Well duh, I guess you missed the message about change which suggests there just may be things that can be done about it.  CHANGE.  See what other businesses are doing, not everyone is going under.  Duh.

So the purpose of all the angst and "warning" is...??? It's not like anyone who frequents this forum (or is exposed to news media) is unaware of all this. It's not "new" or even close to it. "What's going to happen when?" Whatever will happen, since there's not a darn thing that can be done about it. Que será, será.

Oh, wait...Amazon is the only retail villain, there is and have been no others. So, you've had a business, or have family/friends who have had a business, that Amazon (you believe) has specifically affected, and only Amazon? So your issue is only with Amazon and no other large retailer. That must be it, otherwise why discount and blow off mention of everything but Amazon? It's not any other business, not an ongoing retail trend for 15 years. It's just Amazon. LOL - got it.

There are businesses that I'm "not even" aware of hurt by Amazon.  Okay, then there are. I'll survive that, frankly.  But they're also hurt by Walmart and every other online store, not just Amazon.

The internet and online shopping IS the new way to shop and it is not going away.   You can blame it for ruining the small businesses and walk in stores and jobs.....and part of that is true. Just like TV changed the way we see the world where before all we had was Radio and newspapers... The internet, computers and such and online information in general will continue to evolve and change our world as we now know it today.  It is only in it's infancy at this point.  I can not even imagine 50 years from now what it wil become. Maybe  a bit frightening😮...... Or maybe just amazing!

I LOVE Amazon prime!  We've been members from when they first offered it...I can't remember how many years now and it's wonderfully convenient!  It just keeps getting better and we enjoy some of the shows as well.

Most of our orders arrive within 2 days...on the rare occasion it's arrived the same day and beats the competition by a mile!

What I'm looking forward to are the new deliveries of fresh food dinners, ready to go.  I think of how much time that would save, planning, driving to and from the grocery store, shopping and dinner prep, not to mention dishes and pots and pans.

I just haven't worked up to trying that yet.

Here's where I can put in a good word for QVC.

I have always hated not only the malls, but trying things on in a dirty dressing room with pins on the floor.

Love QVC for basics!  Not a wide range, I grant you, but cute tees, basic pants, nice jackets for Fall, etc.  QVC is so good about sizing, I know what to order.

@Noel7QVC has it's nitch.  I do think that they need to keep up better....or they are going to get left in the dust.  This business with orders not shipping out for days and days and then taking 10 days to be delivered after  that is  just going to  lose customers. And the website is antiquated and out dated ad they never fix it.   I see QVC not lasting 10  years ,if that, the way things are going today.

I agree @SeaMaiden

Their shipping is the pits.

In the city (well before Amazon offered it) I used similar services multiple times a week - like every other day, lol. But they were all expensive with delivery charges and tips. If Amazon doesn't charge a delivery fee (with being a Prime member) that could be considerable savings.

They'll never offer it in my neck of the woods. We have exactly 6 restaurants within a 10 minute drive each way if you don't count fast food. If you don't want Mexican or Chinese you're pretty out of luck. Any other restaurant is a 30-40 minute drive each way. The restaurants wouldn't do it.

I thought of you Saturday, @Noel7. I went to the Scottish Games in Monterey and there was a booth selling Welsh Cakes. I was off my feed (very bad day for that to happen) and just had a fresh scone strawberry shortcake and a Harp.

I had, oddly, the opportunity to purchase my very own jackalope there (I've always wanted one), but I passed it up. Still kinda sorry ;-)

@Moonchilde

Oh, fun!  I'm glad you went.  My daughter has gone a couple of times recently so I know they think to include other Celtic groups.  Her dad is half Scottish and I encourage her to explore that culture, also.

SF is changing in many ways and one I love is that Irish bakeries are popping up here and there. Great scones and a lot of breads.  For years almost everything was Chinese food, so I know how you feel about availability.
