We went to a Christmas party today. A pot luck. I took a 9 x 13 of homemade from scratch mac & cheese. When the line formed to get food my back was bothering me so I decided to wait for it as I could not stand long. While we were sitting and chatting we saw many plates piled high with food go on by us, and we saw people who had already been through the line cut in to get a refill of some things. We were last in line and , you probably guessed I was going to say this, there was almost nothing left to eat. And I am talking crumbs here. We got home about an hour ago and I am actually having to make us dinner, as all we got at the party was some jello salad and cookies. A gentleman came over to me and asked if I made the mac & ch and i said yes - he said it was so good I had 3 helpings. I said : are you aware that some people did not get anything at all to eat because some of the early eaters came back and got seconds and thirds? He said he was sure that didn't happen.I assured him it did. He said well, you can go make some more of that great mac & cheese then. How can people be so rude to go back for second & third helpings when so many were still in line for their first? SMH.

Some people are just clueless and only think about themselves. It's all about me, me, me. They do the same thing at Costco. I don't even bother attempting to get any free food samples anymore because people are so greedy, they push you and grab the food as fast as the demonstrator puts it out. I thing some people go there at lunch time just to fill up on free food. Disgusting.

There are lots of people who don't really care about others, 3 helpings is a bit piggish, I agree, but I would never, ever have said anything to him about it, never. Truthfully, I think calling attention to how much he ate was more rude than him going back three times.
I don't mean to be disagreeable but I don't get your surprise at having nothing left but crumbs...you saw it happening, people going back two and three times while you chatted, and yet you remained seated? I would have been in line if I had to drag my chair alongside me...lol.

I understand your frustration at people cuting in line, but you did decide to sit and wait. You saw people cuttting to take seconds, and since you didn't have an issue with saying something afterward, you should have said something in the moment or gotten back in line before all the food was gone. Also, If others like you were only providing dishes that were in 9x13 pans, and the line was long enough to make you want to sit and wait, then you shouldn't have been so surprised that food went away so quickly. So, while I agree with you that people are greedy piggies sometimes, I would have spoken up earlier or gotten back in line. It's an every man-for-himself world out there when it comes to mac and cheese!

That's unfortunate. Maybe next time you could ask someone to get you a plate of food since you have difficulties standing for any period of time. I do, too, & that's what I do, though I admit it's usually a family situation & they're all pretty agreeable to helping me out.

I'm kind of glad you said something to piggy man. Clearly, he didn't 'get' it but oh well.
Going in, it's probably hard to imagine that there will be some who will hog all the food but I guess that's the way it is and one has to be able to get in there or lose out.
I wonder what if there were some who were disabled and had to wait it out.

While I agree people can be rude. If I saw it happening I would get in line pronto.
I wouldn't have said anything, I would just be happy that my dish was really liked.

It's a pot luck. What did you expect. DH will not eat at pot lucks because he worries about food handling.
