Amarillo nightmare starting Friday

Everybody , but, me knows that Amarillo had a nightmare couple of days except me because I didn't have any power from Friday at 10a.m, till today at 1:30.

Cellphone was my only connection to the living

Sister had been watching the national news and said that my part of TX was the news of the minute.

I about died without my TV and DVDd's, couldn't open the refrigerator/freezer. Just ate snack food and warm water. Stove is electric. All I had was battery clocks and my cellphone that was ready to kick the can by Sat.

My vinyl patio fence lost a panel. My big garage door bowed in and wouldn't open even if I pulled the rope.

My handy man laughed and said "You have to pull up the door and pull the rope at same time". Him and a friend pulled it up so I could get my car out and go to a motel if power was gonna be out for long.

No computer, home phone , cellphone was down to 20% and my charger died on me. Soon as I was able to hit walmart I bought the car charger and got my cellphone back up. Bought home some hot food.

No QVC for 2 days ! My charge card is on Va K LOL

New 4,000 double garage door will be installed Mon.

People coming out Mon to put my fence panal back up.

I'm telling you people winds at 60 mph is no fun.

Lot of wrecks too.

Nightmare !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Amarillo nightmare starting Friday

I always keep many charging blocks handy although in 30 years we have never lost power for more than a few minutes.  We have halo's in both cars as backups also.

Glad you made it safely through that!

Re: Amarillo nightmare starting Friday

That's what's so odd. I've been in Tx since 2010 and sure wind, but, not like tornado winds !

I bought my sister up in Ind a Generac and a new water heater because they lose power up there all the time and one time she had almost 4 days with no furnace.

When it would go off here for maybe an hr. it was no big deal, but, this week end it was the icing on the cake !   Monster winds !

Not fun, but thank goodness you are o.k.!  Hope your insurance will cover the repairs needed.  Lots of devastation from that storm system, and it's still going on now with tornado warnings.  Hope all stay safe!

@SharkE    we lived 4 days without everything you mentioned including many of our old trees some of which fell on different parts of our wire fence       it cost us over 5000 dollars just to clean up the downed trees and that took over 2 months to get a company here    as i said in another weather thread we call it mother nature

Re: Amarillo nightmare starting Friday

I was wondering about you.  I heard on TV  Amarillo had 80mph winds which I believe because we had 60mph and everything was intact.

It's a good thing you didn't try to take your tractor trailer on the road.  They were falling over like dominoes on I-27.

By the way, our local news stations televise their newscasts live so you can watch on a cell.

Glad to hear all the damage was to things and not you, although no damage would be preferable.

It's past time you get yourself a Generac. The peace of mind you give yourself living alone is worth the price tag.

I bought DS a Generac portable power station last fall. It's clean, no fumes. He's been without power before, once for 5 days.
