Even if the employees file for unemployment, they won't receive it anytime soon, if ever.

There should be no problem with them collecting UI but they can't file until they're off the payroll, whenever that might be.  It usually takes 2-3 weeks for them to start receiving benefits.

At the beginning of this pandemic, DD was laid off when her job closed the business.

She applied for unemployment immediately while she looked for another job.

She jumped through all the hoops and had at least weekly contacts to prove that she was actually actively looking for other employment and would inquire about the status of her claim, only to be told that due to the pandemic her claim would take longer than usual.

Bottom line, she never received a penny and luckily found another job 6 months later, while we helped support her in the meantime.

No lectures on how great unemployment is please, everyone's experience may be different from what you 'think'.

To all of my fellow posters:   I meant no jabs at anyone.  I haven't had time to be on the board much and I honestly thought there might be a thread I was missing.  I don't do any outside social media outlets like Facebook.  I don't have the slightest idea how to start a go fund me account, but I would be happy to contribute. With all the delivery problems QVC has had in the past year or so, none of them are the fault of their employees.

@meallen616 Your post says it all! I received a package from this facility this morning. I felt sad and will continue to pray. LadyAlice

You did/said nothing wrong, no need to apologize to anyone.

With the written word you don't have the benefit of the person's facial expressions, tone of voice, etc., to help determine their meaning and intent, that's left up to interpretation.

Maybe I haven't looked hard enough.  Here they are, a week before Christmas with no job.  Sure they get unemployment but it is nowhere near their wages.  And we are worried about our swizzle sticks order?

I saw your more recent reply later on in this thread, but have to say that your opening post does sound condescending to fellow posters.

As if shame on them/us-- for not starting a thread about what we can do for the employees involved at that warehouse.

But, instead of you starting a thread with that intent, (e.g.  What can we do?), you decided to start this one.

The mention of swizzle sticks didn't help.  Made it sound worse.

Anyone stop you from starting such a thread (or is this the one you are starting?) instead of admonishing what you see as lacking?

I guess you are referring to employees who worked at the QVC facility that was heavily damaged by fire? Do  you know for a fact those QVC employees are not being paid and are now stuck only with unemployment income? Maybe QVC is holding them up  right now with continued paychecks?

You do sound sincerely concerned and want others to care as you do and help. Just what do you think we should be offering to do? What action have you already initiated to help them?

I can feel very bad for them and want to help AND worry about my orders, too. Someone else's troubles do not obviate my worries or render them petty. And my worrying about my orders does not mean I don't care about people affected by fires or tornadoes or disease.

@depglass I call your post being a compassion bully. You must be so proud to hang your own halo!

Omg how rude! What is wrong with you responding in such a manner?

Re: Am Is missing a "What can we do to help the QVC employees" thread?

I watched a press conference through the local station in Rocky Mount yesterday with local and State Officials.  They will help them through the unemployment process.  QVC management is on site also.

The fire is having and will continue to have a huge impact on the community.  You can't replace a warehouse of more than  1 million square feet overnight. They will receive all the assistance possible through state agencies.

There is really nothing we can do as their homes and personal possessions were not effected.  What they need is

unemployment, jobs and QVC to rebuild.
