Am I the only one who hates my picture being taken?

I hate my picture being taken, It's not a secret.

Yesterday, at work a photographer hired by my employer was walking around the building taking candid shots. Everytime I saw her, I moved away quietly, so that I wouldn't be photographed.

At the end of the day, I was with 2 co-workers working at a table when she arrived with her camera. I didn't say a thing, I just got up and moved away. She asked me to sit down for a group picture. I explained that I didnt care to be photographed.

She and others in the office came around and begged me to get in the picture. I felted bullied, for refusing, but stuck to my guns. I just walked out of the room and said I'd be back later to finish the project.

Anyone else feel this away about being photographed? I hate when someone takes a pic without my concent and the next thing I know, it's on the internet or in a publication of some sort. I try to be poilte and just say no and move away, but lately I have found that people will fight me for a pic...with permission or without permission on the sly.

Ok, now I feel better.

I am right there with you, moving as far away from any cameras as possible. I used to be very photogenic, but not in recent years. It just makes me very upset and depressed to see myself in pictures. When my daughter got married 2 years ago, I had to proof all the pix first before I allowed her to put them up online. I deleted 15 pix of myself first, left a chosen few in the group.

I married a professional photographer and was used as his model (actually I called it ""guinea pig"") for many years as he tried potentially new poses for portrait settings and camera settings. I haven't liked to have my photo taken for many years.

I am very camera shy. I had to renew my driver's license a few weeks ago. When I know someone is taking my picture, I kind of freak out and get a crazy look on my face.

So, I got the new license in the mail the other day and proceeded to get my extra fine felt tip markers out and did sort of a Lisa Robertson photoshop to it. {#emotions_dlg.scared}

Yes, I know it is against the law.

Re: Am I the only one who hates my picture being taken?

Regarding OP's comments about others taking photos and posting them on social media sites (facebook, etc.) without your consent - this irritates me to no end! My friends and sister do this frequently, even though I have asked them not to. {#emotions_dlg.mad}

In my profession, we are discouraged from sharing too much on social media (due to the population I serve). I don't have a problem being cautious with the the information I share, as I don't really participate on social media, anyway.

What I can't control is how others inadvertently choose to share my info with the world. Whether it's photos, tidbits about conversations or experiences we've shared, or our upcoming plans and travel arrangements - I feel that they should be more respectful of the privacy of those of us who do not wish to have our every activity and whereabouts known.

OK, I'm off my soapbox now. LOL!

Me too! I've always been this way. Sometimes people absolutely force it on you and that just ends up making me really mad. People always say ridiculous things like 'oh, you're so pretty'. geez

The last time was at a party of an acquaintance and she was running around taking peoples' pictures. When she got to me I said 'please, no. I don't like my picture taken'. She railed on me and railed on me until I finally said 'FINE. go ahead and take the freaking picture'. Well, to this day I'm sorry I ever did that. The fact that she was so incredibly rude and uncaring to hammer me about it - I should have just left. I was trying to just be nice and shut her the heII up, but it still bugs me. She framed it and it hangs in her house. oy

She loves the picture. I posed with her. Fine, but the way she got it was the epitome of somebody having a total lack of manners and social graces. Yes, this HAS stuck in my craw. She shows herself to have no manners in a myriad of other ways. I guess some people just were never taught politeness and end up being completely socially inept.

Re: Am I the only one who hates my picture being taken?

Having my picture taken is not my favorite thing, but I'll do it.

I look at it this way, how many of us wish that we had photos of our grand-parents, or great-grands, etc, but those photos don't exist?

Now, what if your grandchildren, or great-grand children were to say, "I wish that I had a picture of great-grandma, so that I would know what she looked like."

Sometimes we have to think about others who might enjoy having a picture of us.
