I think a large percentage of it is not what is said, but how it's said.
My experience has been it is not what is said but who said it.

@JaneMarple wrote:The moderation on the old board was a joke! For months and years they stood idly by and let the bullies ruin the board. When bullied posters would respond, they were either banned or just stopped posting altogether.
The dog whistle would blow and perfectly thought provoking threads would get ruined intentionally because it was proven that lists were made to get rid of posters that dared to go against them. So now we have a new stronger moderation system and this same group suddenly feeling victimized. Ironic isn't it?
AMEN, SISTER!
You have just said what I have been thinking all along! Thank you.

Thank you to the new mods who appear to know what's really going on.

Some states had it, others did not. Why not wait until the thinking changed and it was changed individually in states?

If that's the way civil rights worked, we'd still have spearate seats on the bus and separate drinking fountains in some states.
Yes!
And segregated schools.

@Northray wrote:Precisely. To say that only your opinion is right and only your side "gets it" is an insult to the rest of America and at the very least childish. The ruling on the "rainbow issue" for example, still remains a split down the middle issue with only one man, one individual, Justice Kennedy breaking the tie. Does that mean the rest of Americans who still feel strongly against, all of a sudden, turn into robots and lose their rights, their opinions? Are those Americans all of a sudden wrong simply because they disagree with a ruling made by one individual. It's one thing to respect the law quite another to denounce your personal beleifs and censor your opinions because they are not the flavor of the day.
NO ONE said you couldn't dissent. No one said you have to denounce your personal beliefs. The decision iteself had nothing to do with religion at all - it was about civil rights for everyone...that was it.
But in fact some did say. And the reason given was because it was, in their opinion, "rancorous". Unfortunately because the institution or the notion of marriage -- of a man and woman come together as two opposite beings made into one. Was created by the God Jehovah of the Judeo/Christian religion -- its hard to separate the two for many. And that is why many on both sides will never "get it". For you it's about civil rights for the rest it's about having their religion hijacked.
In fact, you could dissent here on these threads, both on the "pro" thread and the "anti" thread.
They were BOTH closed after too many people refused to follow the moderator's
rules....after REPEATED requests for them to do so.
I think the moderators have been very fair...and they stated very clearly WHY posts were deleted.
You can always post on your local newspaper, or national sites too if you want more freewheeling discussions.
Thanks, I do. I like to post every where.

In the last two or so years there were a few cases nationally in Florida, New York and Missouri that brought some of the most HATEFUL remarks here at the Q. They were left up and nothing was done about but to take the threads down. Were any of the offending posters banned? No they weren't but when they were called out NOTHING WAS done!

60-37 in favor.
Public support for the legality of same-sex marriage first reached a majority in 2011, when 53% supported it. Since then, support has ranged from 48% to 55%.
From Gallap
Not an overwhelming majority. IMO.
