Hello, everyone!  I am the OP and you have all confirmed what I was thinking:  that it is a scam.  I think I knew  because of what some of you have posted in the past about the 'IRS CALL.'   So, thank you.

Yes this is a scam! My elderly mother has gotten this call and was concerned but it is a scam. I reported it to the FTC but I don't think they can do anything about it.

This is a scam.  I received a phone call also, purportedly from the IRS, and hung up immediately.  You should get a whistle and blow it into your phone if this happens again.  They will probably never call again.  I answered the phone before checking Caller ID.....and learned my lesson.

One more scam to add to the list.  If you can block the number do so.  Something tells me they just rotate the numbers anyway.

They use "throw away" cell phones.  If they think they're in danger of being 'caught out', they just dispose of the phones and get new ones.

So I pay:

Federal Tax (take 0 deductions);

State Tax (take 0 deductions);

Medicare tax:

Extra - estimated tax - (I'm a compulsive over payer and throw my refund over to the next year); and

Property tax

and this week I had two phone messages, one from the "IRS" and one from the FBI threatening to arrest me for back taxes.

No, I didn't call back.  Really I was too tired from working to pay all my taxes to be bothered.
