Being aware is especially critical in our current environment....stay rational and safe. If you question an inquiry/offer it is fairly easy to confirm if it is valid. I just accept this as part of our current culture and move on with my life.

I have always been a cautious person. I remember when I was 16 or 17 and my sister was having a problem with her car and took it to a mechanic. She was telling my Dad that the mechanic bought out the piece that had to be replaced and I said, "Had do you know it's yours?" My Dad agreed with me. Paranoid, cautious, skeptical....whatever you want to call it. It's better to question everything.

It never hurts to be cautious in this day and age...

Anyway I signed up with Verizon for my internet and phone two months ago and got an email that looks very official from Verizon. It mentions a reward I earned and there is a code to enter to claim my reward. I have gotten a Visa gift card from them before but I think they just sent it to me. I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow since I don't have time to hold on the line now and ask if this is legitimate.
I feel the same way. I don't trust anything that comes in a text or email. I never click on a link in an email or call a number in the email/text. I go directly to the company's website or look up the phone number for the real company and call.
I use apple products. I can click on the sender name and it'll tell me the real sender. It's amazing how many are not from the actual companies. Block. Block. Block.
I investigated fraud for 20 years of my career. It's amazing what people will do. I trust very few people because of this and crazy politicians/supporters.

@Spurt Sorry, but I don't see a teen sauntering down the street, minding his own business as a potential "invader". Sadly, busy bodies have actually called the police to confront such kids.

@CalminHeart you really can't look up a number anymore, it isn't free there is always a catch for payment for any information.

I understand what you are saying, but you read about teens with no conscience---
- A teen crime wave is sweeping across the Northside of Bexar County, surprising law enforcement officials
San Antonio- Bexar County officials say juvenile violent crime numbers are going up. ...
Teens killed Uber driver
Teens beat an elderly woman and stole her purse
Teens trash restaurant because they were charged extra for additional condiments....
And teen school shooters who left all kinds of "clues" of what they were up to on social media, yet no one reported it, and who knows how many of these incidents could have been stopped.......
Now teens arent the only ones, but you just cant trust ANY strangers....Law Enforcement has urged people to step up and report ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS! I'd rather be a "Gladys Kravitiz" for that peace of mind.....

What I do is a google search for a company's corporate office number I get a hit on their legit website with that hidden number. Or the Better Business Bureau website has legit company phone numbers too.

A friend of mine saw a young guy walking through her neighborhood about 2 a.m. - she and her family were returning home from a trip - I'm not sure if her home is in a gated community or not, but it's "upscale" - she said nothing, did nothing.
He murdered her neighbor.
