Well if you recognized the symptoms so no I thought it was the responsible thing to do. Many people do not take good care of their pets or can afford it so i think you did the right thing

Thank you, kcladyz, I feel I did the right thing for my beloved Gracie, too--in retrospect.

RedConvertibleGirl---Please let me know how her blood tests come back--she will be in my prayers to St Francis! Glad to hear she is doing well, aside from a few minor glitches (we all have them, don't we?). Believe me, I know all about how expensive vet bills can be!!My vet's receptionist told me that their business has gotten very slow since a lot of people, once they lose a pet, do not adopt another because of the high vet bills--what a shame!

I still have not decided what to do about giving Gracie the pancreatic enzyme. My vet called yesterday to tell me that he can give me half a bag of the powdered enzyme free--a client of his donated it to the animal hospital and I can have it to get Gracie started. I told him to hold onto it for me--that I haven't decided if I want to give it to her yet. She is doing fine and I don't want to rock the boat. He told me that he feels this enzyme might save Gracie from another acute attack of pancreatitis. He still has not convinced me that she needs it.

What to do…..what to do…..

God Bless,

GraciesMom

Lab results came in yesterday. Everything is good but the creanitine (sp?) level is high. So I chased her around the yard this morning in my jammies and the rain getting a urine sample to take in. Fingers crossed!

Oh my, RedConvertibleGirl!!! However, I know the drill well---tough getting a urine sample from a dog---I still have to bring one in for Gracie since her kidney functions were off at one point, too. Best of luck--prayers still being said---let me know!!!!!

NO! Your are not a crazy dog lady. You know your pet and trying to keep ahead of anything with her health is not crazy, I think it's smart. I changed vets years ago when the vet made me feel stupid for bringing my Boston Terrier in. Sydni had vomited a few times and was just acting odd. The vet couldn't find anything wrong but said "these dogs do DO puke,ya know." I had two Boston Terriers and know they are prone to puking but the way it was said made me feel foolish. I found another vet,a far better one. I hope your Gracie is feeling better and I know you will only do what you think is in her best interest because you love her.

The prayers worked! The vet called a little while ago and said the urine concentration was normal, and he had no idea why the creanatine (I really do need to learn how to spell that - LOL) levels were elevated. But he said not to worry, and he doesn't need to see her for 3-4 months. Of course, daddy has to take her to see her eye doc and skin doc tomorrow. Poor thing, 4 vets in one week. Like I've always said, I work to support her care.

ARE YOU KIDDING? I would have done the same and do. Give mine a blood test every 6 months. These are our family and especially if the only family you have. Keep up with being fussy and protective.

Wonderful news, RedConvertibleGirl--WOOHOO!!!!! I pray to St Francis all the time for my beloved Gracie--and for all pets who need help. So glad that my prayers worked--YAY!!!

You are such a terrific Mommy--you do what you have to do to keep your baby healthy and happy--because that's what we do!!

Please keep me updated--and best of luck at the eye and skin docs!!!

Gracie is doing fine--no issues since last week's little glitch. I still have not decided what to do about supplementing her pancreatic enzymes--I really do not know which way to go.Maybe I should get another vet's opinion--even though money is tight? I'm praying to be shown which way to go...

MoJoV……I agree that you did the right thing by switching vets--I would've done the same. That vet had some nerve--making you feel stupid when you were worried about your Syndi--that vet had no compassion, no heart! Did he think you had nothing better to do with your money than to spend it for no reason at his office? I get so angry when I hear an experience like yours!!

Gracie is doing fine, but I still have not decided if I should give her the pancreatic enzymes or not. I don't even know if there is a right answer in her case. I'm thinking about getting a second opinion. I've researched Gracie's condition for days and I still don't know what to do.

What is the name of the enzymes, is it the stuff that comes in black packets and says "flora" or something like that? Is it maybe Pancrezyme? My friend sent me that link for a California pet pharmacy website. Things do appear to be cheaper and they take care of contacting your vet for the authorization.
