The news reported today that Toys R Us will be closing all of its stores this Friday, June 29.

I rushed in here to find out why ALL stores are closing friday.....ALL!!

I hate to hear it but doesn’t surprise me. One closest to me closed a year or two ago now the last is going to close. I suspect sales are going down because more and more people are shopping online. I’m one of those people that still like to shop in the stores.

Every Christmas for about as long as I can remember, I've been going there on the hunt for different things. Very sad to me.

I don't think that it was only online shopping that killed Toys R Us.  The toy prices were higher than Target or Walmart.  The store near me had a small inventory in a large store.

According to Forbes the reason Toyr Us went under is because of a leveraged buyout by Bain Capital in 2005. Toys r Us was then saddled with 6 billion dollars in debt that it couldn’t pay off.

In my opinion, online sales didn't do them in.  They did themselves in.  Their prices were too high.  And, their inventory wasn't that great.

We liked to take the grandkids there once in a while.  But, never in the summer, because our local store wasn't adequately air conditioned.  I saw the writing on the wall then.

Also, I hated their return policy.  In over 35 years of shopping there, I made maybe two returns.  The last time, they wanted my credit card AND they wanted to scan my driver's license.  Told them they could see my license, but that they weren't going to scan it.  A small battle ensued, but I won.  After that incident, I refused to shop there the past couple of Christmases. 

Good riddance!

I enjoyed taking the Grnaddaughter there to browse so that I could get ideas for Birthday or Christmas......

Things sure are changing in retail, reminds me of years ago when all the downtown mom and pop stores closed because of malls ,now this because of Internet shopping.
