They said that a "deal" was made and that there are two forms of justice. They said the Grand Jury had only a sliver of the evidence and found cause to indict him. In other words, they had tons of evidence against him. He's a sleeze and he cost the taxpayers and city a ton of money. I hope he doesn't get his job back. The public is sick of this kind of stuff. It was an insult to the police, giving the public the impression that the evidence was not adequate, which it was. Google the press conference if you want to see two honest people - the police chief and Rahm Emmanuel. I guess Rahms on his way out so he isn't worried about speaking the truth. I've never been a fan of his, but this was great. The charges may have been dropped, but I think most people will have a terrible opinion of this guy. Anyone crazy enough to create this lie will no doubt get in trouble again. It will follow him forever. Also, normally The D.A. will have a discussion with the police before dropping charges and it's usually for cause - like the case is falling apart. This case wasn't falling apart. The D.A. in Cook's County removed herself from the case initially, saying that she was friends of a friend of Smollett. Now all of a suddent, she's back? They say that County is very corrupt.
Smollett is a dirtbag. Years ago he used his brother's name when he was caught with no license and got a DUI. What kind of person would does something like that? As Dr Phil says 'Past behavior predicts future behavior'. Now off to watch that news conference.
I was dating a man that did this! He was not driving drunk (as I wouldn't be in the car) but he was speeding....cops pulled him over. He gave them his brothers license....I didn't know until the officer called him by a different name! I was about 20 at the time. Only had gone on 2 dates when this happened.....stopped dating this jerk! Oh and he says to me...."I'll just call my lawyer he'll fix it for me!" so he had done this before!!!

this guy is such a jerk I cannot beileve he got away with this ! Oh I guess I can 😉. One set of rules for some and not others. So now he's just free with this removed from the record so they said.
Never watch this show had no idea who he even was , but don't feel he should get his job back . Others have lost there jobs for a lot less .

@millieshops Same for me. Never heard of him before all this crazy stuff he did. Could care less about him. Hope he goes AWAY.
I never watched his show or heard of him either. But, I believe when the tax paying public pays for these costly high profile investigations, court proceedings, DA salaries, etc., the police, the mayor and the taxpayers have the right to know what really happened to cause the dismissal of all these felony charges.
It reeks of privilege and corruption and a coverup.

Isn't it repulsive that only days after the college admission "pay off" scandal it seems like once again that money & fame buys priviledge a "regular" person could never have. This stinks to high heaven!

I would not assume there was any payoff, more likely once the cops learned Jussie caused the entire lie, something happened that messed up the case, someone tried too hard to do what wasn't necessary that knocked the pins out from under the prosecutor.

It was appropriate for the "crime" to be referred to the FBI. Period.

@Free2beIf that's the case, why wouldn't the prosecutor do a press conference, why did the police chief and mayor have no knowlege of what and why this happened?
Sorry, I think your take on things looks less likely, from where it sits right now.

@millieshops, I'm late to this thread so perhaps this information has already been relayed. It is an excerpt from an ABC article.
He was released from jail after posting $10,000 of his $100,000 bond. Smollett's attorneys said Tuesday that the actor forfeited his bond over to the city of Chicago.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said Tuesday that after reviewing the case, Smollett's community service and his willingness to turn his bond over to the city, "we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case."
I believe the same article stated that at worst he would have gotten community service.

Does anyone know what the new evidence Jussie's attorneys spoke of while the two people who supposedly attacked him were about to testify to the Grand Jury were held back from entering the room?
