Did anyone see Taylor's performance of the song on SNL? It's off her rebooted Red album, the song is about 10 minutes long, she didn't do a second songs like the musical guests usually do, and Colin Jost even made a joke about it being so long. The song seemed to confirm what was suggested that it's about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal. Seems like he may have been her first love and the breakup was very painful. This is her version, we don't know his about what really went down, I do feel bad for him, he went through the wringer when the song first was released, now he has to go through it all over again. She seems to have moved on and seems very happy, why go through this again?

While $$$ is always a strong motivator to be sure, Taylor, IMO, did the new album because she was done dirty and kept her integrity intact.

Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta sold her first 6 album master rights for $300 million. She got zip from that sale.

This shifty stuff does happen in the music industry a lot. Look what Prince went through. I say, good for her! She is a very strong, determined and talented lady. She takes no cwap from anyone.

She's re-recording a number of her CD's because her agreement on the originals gave the rights to someone else and they've refused to sell them to her even though they've sold them to someone else. This way, when companies use her songs, she will benefit and not the people that own the rights to the original albums.

When she first was getting so  popular I never understood all the awards, I guess because I didn't think she was that great of a singer.

Now I think she is a very good song writer and I like her voice now.

I've read too how she has done many good and charitable things for strangers and friends.

It is a sad song but I think from the song it does seem like she was needy and maybe immature with not much self esteem in the whole relationship. I wouldn't want to be her boyfriend just in case we broke up and I got another breakup song about me. (if I was a guy of course).

It's hard to know of course what someone is really like aside from all we see and hear about them on social media, news, shows etc.

She is a 31 yr old woman who dated a guy for 2 months, and still is out for revenge.  It wasn't a long relationship.  John Meyer is rumored to be next on the hit list.  She has been through so many many men and I'm sure broke some hearts herself.  She really needs to grow up.

this happened when she was 20 i believe and she was probably still very immature. she got swept up into a romance and it has been rumored that she probably lost her virginity to him. and that he did not treat her well.....and perhaps that sent her into depression. not every twenty year old is able to handle a reationship with someone who is about ten years older AND more experienced.

if this helps her heal  and she can make some money in her profession, then more power to her. doesnt really sound like revenge to me. dont many country songs have a story to tell......good or bad?

I imagine she has gotten over these old loves, but much of her audience are young girls and the songs really evoke that young heartbreak.

I love the song, beautifully written. She has a true gift for songwriting.
