I use Alexa for so many things.  She's never asked me my name.

She does get startled when hubby's snoring gets super loud.  LOL

So the question IS---if Alexa knows your name through your Amazon account as everyone said, then why is she STILL asking your name?????\

Personally I like to stay active and keep my fingers and mind going by looking up my own answers to my questions or recipes, changing and programming my music, and doing things for myself etc etc etc.....arent we stagnant enough????.🤔...just asking.....

So far none of my 4 Alexas have done that over the last 6 months I have had them.  Of course they know my name through my Amazon account.  I like to use my Alexas to control my color changing smart bulbs and smart outlets for ambient lighting throughout my house.  I do a lot of oranges, reds and purples in various locations.   The blend of them in one room can be quite spectacular.  I also use my Alexas to play music especially the one in the bedroom.   Other than that I use my Alexas for timers and alarm clocks regularly each day.  She also is very good at math which makes her helpful in the kitchen and office.  I also quite often ask her the time, time of sunrise/sunset, and the current temperature and/or weather forecast.

@giddy up We believe, and know but not to what degree, that they listen and learn as time goes by.  When we got them we never had issues.

Then they started to talk on their own, make references they shouldn't have made, etc.  They are listening all the time, and supposedly their name turns them on, but they do listen.  So when you give information over the phone, they hear, when you talk to the pharmacy they hear.

Frankly we began to wonder how much they hear and compile when you don't think they are on.  It got creepy and we are both huge advocates of technology.  But we also understand what it is capable of.

My Alexa doesn't say anything unless I say her name first and ask something. But just wanted to say, those who are worried about Alexa listening. Your phones operate the same way! Also if you have cameras in or around your home, they can be and have been hacked. Lastly my cellphone (tracfone) late at night (when I cant sleep at like 2 AM) started scrolling when I am not even doing anything but reading. This has happened a lot. It gave me the creeps. I don't know if someone was hacking into it or what? But anyway, I now have tape over my camera on my phone when not using the camera, (and on my laptop camera I have that covered too). Moral of the story, all these gadgets are intrusive.

You can get little things that adhere to your device camera but aren't stuck on.  Easy to remove and replace, leave no mark!

Why would anyone have one if they don't like it and don't use it ?????  I'm not afraid of or intimidated by modern technology but I don't buy everything that comes down the road.  I don't have Alexa because I have no need for one.

I know!

That was my question!

So many posts that are saying, "I have one and I HATE it!"

Well, if one HATES it so much, then why even have it in the first place?

It just doesn't make any sense to have something, and to actually use it, if it is so hated.

Just get rid of the darned thing, and make life happier.

I would never get one of these. I’m perfectly happy pressing a button or two.
