The Echo doesn't cost anything beyond the intial purchase price.

I got mine for my birthday last year, so she's almost a year old here. We enjoy her for putting groceries on the shopping list, reminders, weather conditions, sometimes jokes, but mosty for music. I read here about her laugh, so I asked her today if she laughs. She said she does laugh, "Tee Hee" That's all. When does she laugh crazy? She's fun to have around and not that costly either. I got her for my birthday from my daughter and son in law because they have her and I am there alot taking care of my twin granddaughters, which I use Alexa all the time for childrens' music. So for my other daughter's birthday, we bought her one too. It was $50.00, Just one payment, none monthly and so well worth it. One time she did pop up and say somthing while my husband and I were saying the Rosary together. I asked her if she wanted to pray the Rosary with us. She said she didn't have an opinon on that!!

@Alison Wonderland wrote:Digital assistants (Alexa, Siri, Google) are triggered by a wake word or phrase, but also get triggered when something sounds like the wake word/phrase.
My Echo is triggered by Alexa, Alexis (a few TV characters), sometimes Alex (ads for Alex, Inc sometimes trigger it) and sometimes words that just sound similar the way someone on TV said them.
I listen to audio books with my iPhone and very rarely the narration inclueds a phrase that sounds like "hey Siri" and my phone will pause the book and tell me it did not understand or ask me to try again,
It's not creepy, it's the way words work. It's just like when a Jaime thinks someone called her name and the person was asking for Amy or some other similar name.
@Alison Wonderland- when mine said "hello" no one was speaking. The technician was working on the HVAC and I was reading, no TV or radio was on. Alexa has been wakened when QVC is selling the ECHO and she's tried to order pizza....if she hears Amazon, she comes to life....but my room was silent and Alexa just said "hello" So to me that time was creepy and to the the gentleman servicing the HVAC

Amen! Why would you want a gadget in your house that spies on you?

The device? I am more cocerned about the people since these gadgets can be hacked. Not to mention the companies that use them to spy on you. I will never have one.

My friend asked her to look up some info regarding " ladies of the evening". Siri said, "there's no need for that".
LOL!

You better hope Alexa is the only one listening. These gadgets are used to collect all sorts of information. They can be hacked and you never know who is listening.

@PA Mom-mom. It just hit me, maybe the name Alex (Trebek) triggers your Echo's response when you watch Jeopardy. Its close to "Alexa".

I feel badly for anyone who uses mine to spy on me. There's no camera and I keep one in my bathroom to listen to the news, music, and control my lights and thermostat. I live alone, so they can enjoy listening to the shower, the toilet flush, and the occasional fart.

I just don't like the idea of all the technology intruding into everything I do....love technology...don't get me worng there...but hate the fact that every little thing I do or say can be tracked/monitered/recorded just so some obscure company or media source can then advertize or spoon feed me news/stories/entertainment/articles/etc. based on my interests! I can still think for myself and make my own decisions and feel this "connected" concept will eventually become the norm with people losing their abilitiy to think and make choices for themself.
