Good Afternoon All

We will be getting an Aldi's soon where I live.  It won't be convenient to where I live, but possibly a place to shop if I happen to pass by.  Or is worth going out of my way to shop there?  If I do go there, what are some things to keep in mind to get?

TIA

Re: Aldi's advice/suggestions

@cookinfreak  WOOWEE we love Aldi's don't we girls?  I think I could speak for many of us here who love to shop and SAVE MONEY with great products Aldi's offers.

Yes, check out the other forums here about Aldi's.  It's so great for basics and so fun for other finds they have that will surprise you when you try them.  I really must say I try a lot of things there and have not been disappointed at all.  Don't be afraid to try such things like meats and bulk items in the freezer department.  Peruse the wines and beer too!

When you go, give yourself some time to stroll all the aisles.  Take your own bags to put all of y our goodies in as they do have bags to buy but take your own.  You can snag empty boxes there too to box up your finds.

Enjoy the money you save too!!!!  Be sure to report back and let us know what you found and how you liked you brand new Aldi's!!!!

Re: Aldi's advice/suggestions

Aldi's had an excellent mix for making parmesan risotto-delish! I havent found anything like that in years, but maybe Trader Joe's has one. They have a beauty line made in Germany that is supposed to be very nice as well.

Cant hurt to check it out on a Saturday afternoon.

All of us who shop there like many different things, so I agree with mtc to check out the threads in the Kitchen forum, where you'll find many helpful posts.

I would definitely stop by there if you are in the area of that store. I think that they have the best grocery prices, in my opinion. If you don't like something, you can return it for a refund, too.

You need a quarter for the cart, which you'll get back when you return the cart to the cart corral, and you can buy bags for your groceries there for a few cents each, but if you have your own, even better, as you have to bag your own groceries. It's how they help to keep costs down there.

@maestra, is that an all in one risotto package or is there a sauce you add to aborio rice?  I would love to try it . . . Smiley Happy

Re: Aldi's advice/suggestions

[ Edited ]

especially good now through the holidays.

Pumpkin coffee now, gingerbread coffee at thanksgiving, lots of good pumpkin cookies and pancake mix, real maple syrup for 4.99 from Canada, which is over 8.00 in regular grocery stores.

Their Specially Selected line is the primo line, I think it is the same as Trader Joe's but under the Aldi's banner. Brioche bread for 3.99 which is 8.99 at Whole Foods, canned beans and diced tomatoes good for chili and at great prices, goat cheese 3.99 which is almost 6,00 at other stores, weekly bargains. it's worth it.

My store was just remodeled and it is great.

Re: Aldi's advice/suggestions

@momtochloe, thank you for posting that link. Since I live alone and rarely cook a whole meal, I don't visit the Kitchen threads.

We, too, are getting an Aldi's soon in my small city, only about two miles from my house. So much of what they seem to offer is on my preference list: organic & gluten free. Now I am really excited for that first shopping experience!

My area first Aldi's will open 11/5/15 and just  1 1/2 miles from me. I signed up for newsletter and very excited.

Re: Aldi's advice/suggestions

I just had an Aldi's open around the corner from me about a year ago but I've never stopped in.  In reading the kitchen threads, it seems like a lot of prepackaged food which I really don't eat but lately I saw the posts on chicken and fruit.  You guys are encouraging me to stop in and see if nothing else but for that Canadian maple syrup.  I hope they carry it in the South.  I'm about out of my bottle and I have pumpkin and apple pancakes to make.
