Greetings, all. I know there are lots of pet lovers on here, and I'm trying to get some information about dogs and the heat. I am thinking of rescuing a small adult dog (a toy poodle, yorkie, shih tzu, or other breed about that size) at some point in the next year or so. Since I'm not home all day I was wondering what pet parents do when a heatwave of this intensity hits. Do you leave the air conditioner on all day for your dog? Would a fan be enough? My house can get stifling hot when it goes over 80 degrees and I would be worried that the dog would get sick or worse in the extreme heat. Of course, I know to leave plenty of water out, and my friend's dog usually goes into the bathroom and stays on the tile where it is cooler. My friend thinks I'm nuts for even considering leaving the A/C on all day. But what do you think? I'd love to hear some opinions about this, though I won't be getting a dog right now. I am thinking through all of this stuff beforehand, though. Thanks!
