We switched cable, phone landline about 3 weeks ago and still cannot get our landline for incoming calls. We can do out going calls. Anyway our new cable provider says that they are waiting for our old cable provider to release our number and our old cable provider says they are waiting a request to release our number and then they tell us they have deactivated our number so it is no longer out there.
We can make out going calls on our phone and when I do call our number shows up on caller Id so it is not deactivated. We think they are being snarky since other people are having this same promblem with getting their number released. They use to have the monolopy here for cable and such but now others are coming to town with much better packages at a much lower rate.
We have never had this promblem before and beside calling the cable company who do I call to register a complaint. This is getting real old. It took one person 7 weeks to get their number released. They tell us to get a new phone number but we have had this one for 20 years and all our bills are tied in with this one. Thanks for any replies I may get.

If you switched to Verizon, all I can say is Good Luck.
It took us 6 months to get our number transferred - after talking to numerous people - including supervisors - all of whom promised us they had fixed the problem.
I will say however, that the TV reception and internet is much much better with Verizon.
And when the neighbor's contractors cut our line, Verizon came out the next day and installed a temp until they could fix it permanently.
So it was all finally worth the switch.

If you made your internet homepage that of your new provider, there might be
a live 'chat line' or an address to email them.
OR
Go to the homepage of your old provider and do that.
Guessing there are other complaints listed, lots of grumbles, if they have a blog area.

I never had a problem getting my number transferred but you don't mention who your carrier is. I haven't had a landline in 6 years, but you may want to think again about using this carrier. Or, just get a new number.

Get on Social Media; that is get on their Facebook page and their Twitter feed and complain, complain, complain! Ask for help there and keep it up. Companies hate having everyone see this and they will contact you. I have gotten things fixed that way real fast. Worth a try anyway.
oh yeah!!! I've heard that gets faster service.

Never thought about the facebook page. We had Charter which got bought out by Knology which got bought about by WOW. They have been the only service in our area for over 20 years besides satellite. We switched from them to ATT versus. Att customer service has been really good, it is dealing with WOW that has been the problem. So far we really like ATT versus. A ton of HD channels, faster internet and of course much cheaper. Thanks for some good advice.
