@KingstonsMom- too bad he didn't follow by example.  TB was a perfect mentor and did his best to try and help him....TB didn't go to the WH because his Mom was in Town and has been battling cancer; it had nothing to do with the Hernandez death; he's remained uninvolved with Hernandez.

Cameras will tell the story but also the medical examiners report. They will be able to tell if he was dead before being hung. Belive me I do not feel sorry for this guy who was a 23 year old athlete with a 40 million football contract and the world at his feet. He chose not to do the right thing and many people suffered for it. However, the timing of this is questionable because his acquittal on the double murder charges left the door open to reopen his initial murder conviction. It  seemed in the courtroom that he was very much relieved and was possibly looking to get that convistion overturned. We shall see what happens.

@wakefield64- he had a taste of freedom even if just to attend his hearing, wearing a suit and feeling the sun and seeing his family and people free....then, went back to a cell....not so unusual to see a suicide....he was probably a hero to some in prison, he was tough and strong and a high profile prisoner....and prisoners wouldn't want attention called to a "murder"  I think it was what it was, a suicide

One other thing......this is one of the biggest reasons I don't watch professional sports.  Between the men that have beat their wives, got involved in drugs, illegal dog fighting - the list is endless - I wouldn't spend one dime of my money to buy their gear or tickets to games.  Or watch them on TV.

If our teachers could make half of their salaries, our education system would be in awesome shape.  And so would our kids.

Stepping off my soap box now.....

@Qshopper1991- only the bad apples get attention and that's unfortunate but football players and local teams do a lot of altruistic work in their prospective communities.  I can name ten good guys for every one that could be named for violence or a crime.  The bad apples are not the norm in football.  I worked at the 9/11 respite after the WTC.  The Giants have had a few notorious of their own....but, I saw personally up front and personal how the organization as a whole helped the rescue workers.  The Firemen would not stop working and digging trying to find remains of their brothers and other innocent people who died that day.  I saw members of the Giant team, physically remove them, put them on a barge and take them off site to NJ...they sat and ate with them, talked football, Super Bowl....anything to get their minds off their terrible chore and what they had seen...I saw strong grown men cry and tough guys from the Giants comfort them....that was just my story....but, every team has its heroes and players that give their own money to set up organizations to help kids, their own communities and a plethora of other causes... 95% or probably even higher give back...I think every fan of football, which I always was, can give you examples from their own communities....I live in NJ in a condo and many Giants and their families live here; they are polite, will carry my bags, set up chaise lounges at the pool for older people and are wonderful people...even when I wear my Pats T shirt...

I don't know where Daily Mail got the information that Tom Brady was any kind of mentor for Hernandez. I've never heard that and I'm a Pats fan and watched most of the first trial.  I think he likely treated him the way he would treat any teammate. Most stories say that Hernandez distanced himself from teammates. He was living a double life early on. His rookie year for the Pats he was 19, 20 years old and the youngest player in the NFL at the time.

Tom Brady not going to the WH probably is due to his mother-hadn't heard she's in the hospital, I hope not. Just heard that she is in town visiting him. Could be for other reasons too. Several players aren't attending today.

@Greeneyedlady21- I am a Pats fan and a TB fan...met him in 2000 before he was great and times after.  I do believe TB may have been a mentor knowing how disciplined the team is.  Coach B probably recognized that Hernandez was trouble, a bit undisciplined tough but talented....many a tough guy is turned around by having the right mentor.  I would put my best guy in charge of mentoring him or channeling the energy and anger to a positive cause....who better than TB?  A mentor isn't always successful nor is he your friend.  Too bad Hernandez didn't follow TB's example, disciplined, clean living and your best....quite frankly, if this guy couldn't be turned around in the Pats organization, nothing would have helped.  I am sure no one ever thought he'd be capable of murder...many people sublimate who have violent tendencies like butchers and surgeons....this young guy was sick and undiagnosed ....

TB's mom was in Town and he wanted to spend time with her....no big story here...."fake news".  Lol

He was a very bad person,  the patriots new he was bad ,but because of his talent they gave him a chance, he killed his friend,a man that looked up to him, but he did not give a hoot , glad he is gone.

@goldensrbest- the Pats knew he was aggressive and talented.  They are not psychologists and often, you can channel those traits into something good.  No one knew he was "bad". He was sick.  Football turns many troubled young men into very good citizens and players.  Football sometimes is the only way for troubled youth to get out of difficult circumstances and communities and get into an organization like the Patriots where discipline is their priority...often, it is the first time they are in a structured environment and learn their is something beyond themselves, the team, their co workers.  No one does it better than the Pats but, even they could not help this troubled young man...even a trained psychiatrist often doesn't know who is capable of murder.

Such an archaic law. MA has been trying to get it off the books for years, but since that has not happened yet, the vacate rule will apply.

I guess that affects the civil lawsuits the families are in the process of. The Quincy MA lawyer that represents the families says the case will still go forward.

The person that has baffled me through all of this is his girlfriend. She has stuck by him through all the trials, brought his baby to the jail every week, (well, not a baby anymore, she is now 4), called him daily. She was in the courtroom every single day for both trials.

I would see her and think "why? Why are you doing this to yourself and an innocent child?". No rhyme or reason to it. There was no future whatsoever for her with him. She is 26 years old.

It is not like she got to keep his big house she was living in with him. Everything he owned was sold to pay for all these high price lawyers. The Patriots did not have to pay off his contract, so I don't think he had gobs of money to begin with. He played 3 seasons at a rather low (for football) rookie salary. He had just signed a 40 million dollar contract when he got arrested, but he didn't get but a portion of it.

I just do not understand the gf. Who wants a boyfriend that is a murderer?

Edited to add: Tom said is was important he spend the day with his Mom today. I hope she is not at the end. SHe is very sick. She looked awful at the Superbowl. Although my son said Brady did not attend the White House event the last time either. Brady is a friend of Trump's, so I imagine his mother reason is valid.

I certainly hope his mother is holding her own.  What I heard this morning was that his wife does not like DT so Brady stayed away, along with other teammates.

@tansy- his Mom is in Town and he wanted to see her, that simple; she has been very sick.  TB and his wife attended many social events with DT in the past...TB and DT have been friends a long time and whether you like DT or not, he gets it....family trumps all...pardon the bad pun...I'm sure they've spoken...TB is quiet about his personal life and there is no "story"

@PurpleBunny- some people have no choices....he may have been an undiagnosed personality disorder....they are studying his brain for traumatic brain injury but I don't think they will find anything that is visible....maybe this guy committed suicide because of a stroke of guilt or consciousness...his assets were depleted, if his conviction was overturned (which I doubt would happen on appeal), what future did he or his family have?  By committing suicide, his family can sue the NFL for TBI and the jail/justice system (his suicide) and since his slate will be clean(abatement) because he is entitled to an appeal, well, back wages and other compensation may be coming their way... who knows?

His behavior was allowed and sometimes covered up at Flordia, Tim Tebow was his room mate, he said AH would either end up in HOF or prision. How right he was.

Look at nfl arrests, drugs, guns, assaults, dui, not a crime but baby mama's Galore. Pacman jones has been arrested 10 times and is still eligible to be in nfl. Until they get kicked out of college or nfl and be made examples of this behavior will continue. Some ex nfl players arrested at spring break, he was in his 40s, at spring break?

Based on the vacate law, I'm now wondering if this wasn't his final act of revenge, denying his victims access to the funds in his estate, so that it could go to his daughter.

@skuggles- I don't think it was revenge....his life was over if his conviction was overturned.  He would be in debt, no one would give him a job as an athlete or anything else and loners like him, never really form relationships...and more importantly, in the eyes of his child and those who loved him, doubt and trust would always be there... he was alone and always would be, even if free....I would prefer to think, he had a conscience at the end and by his suicide, he would care for his family, those who supported him and showed unconditional love....they will get a settlement and his daughter will not live with the stigma of having a murderer as a father. Every murderer has the right to appeal over and over again but abatement wipes the slate clean because of reasonable doubt and his lack of appeals ...he knew he was a murderer and he is not a sympathetic character and no jury would overturn the verdict; he would never know freedom and maybe the worst scenario for him.  Life was over either way....I am sure prison was no big deal for him; he was tough, probably even respected by other prisoners...he had structure, friends just like him, but still alone...but, maybe he did turn to a higher being and realized that he could provide for his family, his child.  and give her the chance he never had...he died with a conscience and it was his way of showing love and/or the only unselfish thing he ever did...maybe he got the psychiatric help he always needed...we will never know....
