Re: ANY NORTHERN CALIFORNIANS HAVE THEIR POWER SHUT OFF?

Sacramento Bee..

Everyone is upset by PG&E blackouts

"Outages are in the hills ringing the Sacramento Valley and the state’s wine country where California Governor, who made his fortune in the wine business, noted that his wineries are in the midst of grape crushing season and desperate for power."

He said, "we’re in the middle of wine crush and folks are running around trying to get generators right now, It’s very consequential.”

I have lived here in NC for 43 years and they are treating it like an earthquake disaster.  It is 9pm and no wind.  Calm all day.

High winds, LOW HUMIDITY = Fire season in California

@ahoymate   About two-three weeks ago, we had terrible wind for about a week, and it was hot, but no threat of power being shut off.  Fortunately we escaped this yesterday, and so we should have as there was no wind and in the sixties.

It's too bad the power company has to do this. Why don't they just trim the trees, bushes and any other thing that grows cleared away from the power lines? WHY??? Because all those tree hungers in California would have a fit! Crazy!!

It doesnt matter if trees are trimmed. If fire danger is high, the smallest spark can start a fire. Maybe it would be better if PG&E denuded the forests. Ugh.

@mare54,  you mean like the trees ranging from 50 to over 100 feet tall just on my property alone?  There are between 30 and 40 of them.  Properties in the neighborhood that don't front the road have similar numbers of trees of similar heights.   It does not count the numerous trees of varying heights that grow along the road to this community.

That is a lot of expense and intrusion onto private property not to mention that clearing them out would be an environmental disaster.  Clearly, I do not live in a suburban area and enjoy the trees, as well as the deer, birds and other wildlife that are dependent on the trees.  Besides, the cost of keeping "trees, bushes and any other thing that grows" cleared would be prohibitive.

We are in Santa Clara County, and our town is among those that may be impacted.  Our outage has been delayed from 12 pm today to 8 pm.

There is no excuse for the PG&E website crashing.  They have had months to prepare and had to know that the site traffic would be very high.  They should absolutely be able to tell a customer if his/her address will be impacted.

they are really bad.  They havent even come around to trim trees in wires where I live in gilroy.  Our lines are so old if a wind picks up our power isnt shut off, it is knocked out.  Takes 4 hours to fix....everytime

PGE is in bankruptcy, so we can expect anything.  What a bunch off doo-doo faces.  The ceo's, not the poor workers who work harder than heck.
