Re: ANY ELECTRIC BLANKET USERS?

I use an electric throw.

My feet are cold at night, even with socks

I don't like to sleep in socks, I don't want anything to affect my circulation.

The throw goes across the foot of my bed, it has 3 settings but I rarely use anything higher than a "1".   I turn it on about 10 minutes before I get in bed and it has an auto-shut off.

I always unplug it every morning before I leave the house for work --just in case!

It works perfectly for me.  If I my feet are warm, I am very comfortable.

And it's portable, if I ever need it in the living room, it's easy to move.

@Tinkrbl44I put up a thread a week ago about an amazing electric blanket I bought off of amazon.  It had a FIVE year guarantee!  Our blanket control on one side quit after four years and they sent me a totally new blanket with only the number on the bottom of the old blanket.

Here's the info!  Amazon:

Soft Heat Luxury Micro Fleece Low Voltage Electric Blanket $119.22 for Q.   Other colors available

Blankets were refigured 20 years ago.  They are now "safe" to sleep under.  If in doubt, call your doctor.

When our electric blanket bit the dust, my dh wanted to try an electric mattress pad instead. Love, love, love. We believe it keeps us warmer than the electric blanket did. Heart

We love our electric blanket. Love it, I say.

And so do the cats. As soon as I get home from work, while I'm changing into comfy clothes, I turn on both sides of the blanket on HIGH. And that's where it stays the rest of the night. The cats are nice and toasty and they live back in bed during the winter.

I usually go to bed around 8:30 or so with my Nook or iPad and read for a while. I've got a cat under my left arm and another cat under my right. The third is nestled next to me. (The other two cats are out with DH in the living room, cozied up under his electric throw with him, while he's watching tv.)

I will never be without an electric blanket for as long as I live....the cats wouldn't allow it!

Re: ANY ELECTRIC BLANKET USERS?

I think I'll try an electric plush throw.  I haven't read every single post, but if someone already jotted down the best electric throws, let me know.  ..............  I have an approx. 10"x10" square 'pack' (rice? or whatever? filled)  that I heat in the microwave.  I place it under the sheets/blankets and it warms up where my legs are.  No electricity.  Nature Creation herbal therapy pack.  They also have unscented.  herbalpack.NET.   It works well for warming up my cold gloves, etc. (I take it with me into my cold car when I leave my plush gloves in the car overnight.)

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: ANY ELECTRIC BLANKET USERS?

I have a blanket and I also recently purchased a smaller one that is portable from room to room. I am loving this smaller version as I use when I am sitting on my couch. I have RA and I like the heat on me when I am having a flare. I would appreciate the gift if someone were to have purchased for me. I think it's very handy to have and particularly in NE Florida where we get some chilly nights.

Re: ANY ELECTRIC BLANKET USERS?

I have had an electric blanket all of my life, well, since I was 6, am now 67. When I married my second husband at 52, he absolutely refused to sleep with one, so I would go to bed hugging a heating pad. 11 years later he decided he wanted a heated mattress pad, which I got and to be honest, I hated it, because I could never get away from the heat. Thankfully?  when I put it in the washer, it just shredded everywhere. No more heated mattress pad, but I talked him into trying an electric blanket. He agreed. We absolutely love getting into a warm toasty bed and when we are warm enough, we just reach over and shut it off, or pop a leg out. Not to mention, our cat loves it too. Another thing to take into consideration is, I have a temperpedic mattress. With the heated pad, it just kept the bed too warm and it never seemed to cool off. Because the electric blanket isn't right on top of the mattress, it doesn't heat up the mattress as much.

I've used one since I was a teenager since I'm always cold when I go to bed.  I recommend a heated mattress pad instead of a blanket.  I put the pad under the mattress pad and I don't feel any wires.  Most of them have an automatic shut off, I think, due to safety factors.  The one I am currently using is probably 20 years old and still works fine.   I turn it on about 30 minutes before bed time and my bed is toasty warm when I climb in.  I have to remember to turn it down before I fall asleep or it gets too hot in there and I pop up like a piece of toast after four hours.  I also have some fleece sheets that I got on sale at Kohls for cheap.  Most people probably wouldn't like the heat like I do, but I can't stand being cold.

The pad (or blanket) can be washed in the washing machine, but has to be line dried.

Since I have slept in a lounge chair for well over 25 years, I use a light weight, non-electric, soft throw. My wife prefers a mattress paid heater to an electric blanket as it warms both the bottom and top sheets.

An electric blanket generally tries to send heat "down", and as science tells us, warm air rises. Think mattress pads are a better choice. Just her/my opinion of course.
