Message from Rodney Smith:

Couldn't resist one more hero for Independence Day.

In 2015,  Alabama student and former Bermudan Rodney Smith conceived of an idea that grew and grew.  He simply started mowing lawns for free, for older people, and anyone who couldn't mow their own lawns.

It grew into his "Fifty Yard Challenge".   Kids across the country are challenged to mow 50 yards for free, for older people, single moms, the disabled and veterans.

Along the way, after certain numbers of mowings, they are rewarded with T shirts, etc.,  and if they make it to 50 yards for free, the program awards them a brand new lawn mower.  Presumably, so that they can continue their good works!

What a wonderful service to others, plus a great character- building project for kids.  It embodies the spirit of America.  Thank you, Rodney Smith, Jr.!

Am so glad to hear his program is still growing and the act of helping others is still being instilled in our young people! What a wonderful lesson Rodney is teaching with The Fifty Yard Challenge.

I have never heard of Rodney Smith but I have seen a couple of men on YouTube that mow lawns for free. It's just not your typical lawn mowing though. These are disgustingly overgrown yards.  It's amazing how they are transformed.
