A client (phone contact only) once told me he loved my accent. I'm from the Midwest - I don't have an accent!
I really hated it when QVC made the hosts change their pronunciation of turquoise to an uppity sounding version. This was back when Kenneth Jay Lane sold his jewelry line on the air. Some hosts said they got the dreaded memo on the subject. Back then, there wasn't email, so they got memos.

The "buh-ton" for "button" pronunciation has become more widespread, for sure. Not sure what you call that pause they make in the middle of the word- a "glottal stop" comes to mind. And as has been mentioned, "kih-en" for "kitten", etc.
If you've had any exposure to the interior design videos of young bloggers, you will also have picked up on the similar "cur- in" pronunciation for "curtain"!

For any diehard language nerds, I found an English language and usage site that explains the different "ul" sounds that people mistakenly apply. I added that info to my original post, but have probably made the whole thing more confusing....

Deleted my own post as I realize I had gone mostly off topic. ![]()
