You know what made us finally get air conditioning? The animals. My son brought home 2 ferrets when he came home from college. One ferret didn't do well in the heat. So we bought an air conditioner and put the ferrets in the spare bedroom, with the ac while we were at work.

Then we babysat a smooth collie for a year. And he also didn't do well in the heat. We didn't want to lock him in a bedroom while we were at work. So we bought a larger air conditioner and put it in the family room.

Then after we no longer had the smooth collie, we got a collie of our own. Put another air conditioner in the kitchen/dining room area. And the collie now is comfortable lying on the tile floor in the family room. 

I am so glad for the animals. It made things comfortable around here.

Growing up we had no AC.  When I moved to my first apt, I swore I'd never be without it in my home or car!

Neighbor is probably in her 80s and I hear her A/C unit come on but she invited me in yesterday and boy was it hot - I'm guessing her thermostat is set at 84 or 86.  It was very hot in there.

I don't remember it being so hot when I was a kid, it was the 50's and 60's and we did not know what an air conditioner was. As I age I really mind the heat and humidity, I'd no doubt end up in the hospital if we didn't have air conditioning.
