AAA Tour Books by State / Region no more 2022

If you use AAA and their Tour Books by State or Region, you may want to stop in soon to get the ones you need.  As of 1/1/22, they will no longer provide the books on paper, just the fold out maps.

Found this out by accident when I stopped in for them for our FL trip.

Seems their printer doesn't want to use up paper resource when GPS is readily available....except if you're I. An

@jlkz     I was told that when I stopped in for a Tour Book in September.  Not pleased about that.  I like a hardback to read.

We drove cross country in 1991, we referred to these books as our Bibles, had a full shopping bag covering the entire country.

At least they still provide the maps.  They can be expensive - $6.99 and up at Barnes & Noble.

But the tour books had great info besides what maps have, such as which hotels/motels en route  are dog friendly.

This is not good news!

We used to rely on those books a lot.  Haven't gotten any in years now that everything is on the internet.  I'm surprised they have lasted this long.

Yes, back in the 80's and 90's we made all our hotel reaservatoins via these books, found restaurants too.

It's amazing to me how far we have come over the years from maps, to trip books  Then the Garmin, portable for cars that continued to improve with food and motel info.  With Smart Phones we had simple maps and they evolved to hand held travel guides.  Now newer cars have so much travel information.  Give us any destination or address anywhere in the country and in seconds we have full directions.  Search dog friendly motels 10 states away and it pops up.  Call to get a reservation as your driving.  All of this in many'of our lifetimes.  I can't wait to see what's coming next.

Not surprised at all by this.  In the northeast at least AAA has really been cutting corners since Covid.   We were using a local office for a few years and we have been through 4 agents, each taking a new position or just leaving.  Now there are no agents in the office!  We have a trip to the Azores that has been rebooked 3 times.  Recently trying to get a hold of my current agent with email and phone messages and she has not called me back!   I need to book flights as we are hoping the trip is still on.   But this is the last trip for me with them.........also their road service has taken a hit, my daughter had to change her own tire in sub zero weather last winter because they never showed up, I was horrified!

Re: AAA Tour Books by State / Region no more 2022

this is very sad to hear and we are long time members of AAA.

i am so used to stopping in and picking up books anytime we go anywhere and i always picked up a book for my home state to browse through for day trip ideas.

i never get the maps and havent for a very long time. mapping apps and gps systems do all the work for you and are so much easier to use.
