Re: A tree is probably going to hit our house

Hope things are OK with your tree. And you have power.

When we bought our house there were 2 large maple trees in our backyard. One tree had been hit by lightning and was pretty much shirred in half. We had an arborist come out. He trimmed both trees for several years. And the tree that was hit by lightning we still have. The other one didn't make it.

But the one hit by lightning, the branches are what breaks off. We have had several tree guys trim the tree in recent years. Some good and some not good. I would not worry about the entire tree coming down - I bet the branches will break off first.

Hope you are still safe and warm.

Re: A tree is probably going to hit our house

Our power is back on, for the second time and the house is warm. Power keeps flickering. Outages all around us so we’re just hoping it holds. Thankful for the power crews.

The tree doesn't look as intimidating in the light of day. The tree is still upright. It’s the branches that are drooping so low because of the weight of the snow and that brings the branches close to the deck. If the branches fall, they should go right to the ground and that would be fine. It just looked really scary in the dark to see them that close as the tree really isn’t THAT close.

There is another pine tree behind us (not our tree), a huge one, that is really leaning this morning. But if it falls in the direction that it’s leaning, it will fall into the woods so no concern there.

Lots of branches down and when I go out on our porch, I can hear them cracking all over.

I got zero sleep. Long night, but we’re doing well this morning’s no so far and I’m thankful.

Oh....someone hit our mailbox and it’s leaning but fortunately not destroyed.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Glad to hear that all is ok.  Is there any way you can get somebody back there to knock the snow off the branches?  That will relieve the stress the snow causes.   I've had to do that with trees and bushes around my house over the years and it makes all the difference.

@gidgetgh, I'm so sorry you had such a bad night.  Things always happen at night.  Ugh

Get some rest today.  Hope your power stays on too.

Re: A tree is probably going to hit our house

I had big ceiling leak and it fell thru due to humidifier on furnance leaking over period of time. We woke up at 1a.m. walked into living room amid mounds of insulation lint like stuff and water drizzling and sheetrock dropping.

Pretty much over now, guy just has to paint over the new ceiling repair.

Not whole ceiling, but, big enough for Santa to come in on. LOL

Hey, you have to have a sense of humor !

Re: A tree is probably going to hit our house

Good morning, @gidgetgh. So glad to know that you're lacking only sleep and not a part of your house. :-)

Apropos of nothing, a few months after we moved into our previous house, an elderly neighbor tried to use our driveway to turn around but hit the gas without going into reverse.

The car came crashing into the house, taking out the wall of our den and part of garage. Our then three-year-old daughter was asleep in her room. Thankfully, we had nixed the idea of making the den her bedroom. Hard to even think about that all these years later.

Holy heck!  That'll leave a mark.  I think I'd be scarred for life if a car drove through my house.   Glad everybody was safe but still - yikes!
