There was a study done at the U. of Miami that lasted for 2 years. The doctors wanted to see if soy could really help diminish hot flashes in women who suffer from them.
There were 2,000 female participants. Half of them were given a placebo, sugar pill, and the other half were given soy capsules, that contain the soy isoflavones. All of the women were suffering from hot flashes when they started the study.
At the end of the study, they didn't see any improvement in either of the 2 groups, but there was one big surprising thing that happened --- the women taking the soy capsules had MORE hot flashes than the women who took the placebo!!
