Beats me, I didn't forget my child, but I had a new car and didn't realize the locks engage even with the keys in the ignition. Fortunately he was asleep and I didn't have to wait too long for assistance.

When my babies fell asleep in the car and I didn't want to wake them up, I would stay in the car with them, even in the driveway.

That's understandable Sydney, I've locked myself out of cars because of that very same reason.

I have never forgot but my DD and I did this inadvertently, I was going into the store just checking for empty boxes and I threw the keys in the center console (My husband and I have this system when one is staying in the car) and she got out to check on granddaughter and shut the door and it automatically locked with her in her car seat.
We were so lucky to be across the street from a mechanic and he unlocked it.

Thankfully the weather was agreeable. I was this close to trying to break out a window.....

If it was nap time, I would pull out a book because they weren't heavy sleepers.

Nap time is good. My oldest child was always soothed by a car ride when he was colic-y. Good times. LOL

This is before cell phones, so I would have had to walk away to find a phone, and I wasn't about to do that. Some guy walked by, saw me hysterical, and said, "Why can't he unlock the door?". Duh. He unbuckled his car seat and opened the door lol
Oh that's too funny.
