My life revolved around my babies when they were small, it would be impossible for me to forget them!

No I haven't. But I had a dilemma a couple of years ago when I was looking after two kids as a nanny. I had them three days a week and their Grandma had them for two days. Every time we went to the store or to drop one of them at preschool or for a class the other would ask to stay in the car. I always said, "no, it is dangerous to stay in the car by yourself". And they would always say, "but Grandma leaves us in the car all the time!"

I didn't want to cause an incident between their Mom and Mother in Law but it really bothered me. So I told the older boy to ask his Mom if it was O.K. That way his Mom found out about it. They stopped asking after that and his Mom mentioned it to me and said thanks for bringing it to my attention. She had her husband talk to his Mom.

I have never left one of my kids in the car........never leave the grand kids in the car......and personally I don't see how it's done.......I know baby girl, the moment we even stop the car, say at the store, is saying out, out, out and trying to take her safety harness off in her car seat..........little kids aren't quiet in that back seat.................................raven

Of course not.

Is anyone really going to 'fess up if they have though?{#emotions_dlg.blink}

It happens, and I'm sure every parent thinks it can never happen to them.

My best friends parents left her at Disneyland when she was little. Actually left the park without her.

No, never, but when I was a new mom and returned to work from maternity leave I was so afraid I would leave work and go home and forget to pick up my son from daycare (since this wasn't part of my previous routine) so I had a constant reminder for about a month on my computer that would pop up right before I left work that said "pick baby up from daycare". My friends used to tease me and call me pathetic, but it worked for me.

These are excerpts from the article linked in my post #32. (emphasis added)

The survey reveals that almost 7 in 10 (69%) parents said they have heard about children suffering heatstroke in vehicles but they are still willing to make exceptions when it comes to their own children. Specifically:

  • 14 percent of parents (based on U.S. population, that number is projected to be nearly two million parents transporting more than 3.3 million children) say they intentionally have left their infants, toddlers, and kindergarten children alone in a parked vehicle. For parents of children three and under, the percentage increases to 23 percent.
  • 11 percent of parents (more than 1.5 million parents transporting more than 2.6 million children) admit to forgetting their child in a car. For those with children three and under, it is nearly 1 in 4.
  • Dads are almost three times more likely than moms to leave a child alone in a parked car – 23% compared to 8%.

In addition, 6% (more than 840,000 parents with nearly 1.5 million children) are comfortable letting their young children stay in a parked, locked vehicle for longer than 15 minutes.

Since 1998, at least 606 children – or one child every 10 days on average– have died from heatstroke when left unattended in a vehicle or after gaining access to an unattended vehicle.

I see people who still leave their kids in the car to run in somewhere. I've been going into the Post Office and have seen people get out of the car and leave their kids in the car because they are ""just running in for a minute."" I've been at the gas station when there are kids in the car because the adult just ran in for something.

I've seen women leave their kids in the car at the grocery store. Young children.
