OP, you do know that the "paper bag trick" is to speed up the ripening don't you?

That is what I thought..when I read her post I was thinking to myself "uh oh..I have been doing it wrong????" lol

No, I did not know that but that's why I only did it once. It just didn't seem right at the time. Thanks for the tipSmile - but does anyone know how they keep them from getting ripe from the time they are picked to the time they hit the stores????? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Yes...this works...separate them and don't let them touch each other...I spread mine out on a shelf....they do last longer.

I do this too.....you can also thaw them out for use in banada bread recipes.

i do this all the time....and it does work. plus, i never buy more than 5 or 6 at a time. i prefer to eat bananas while they are still slightly green. i hate an overripe banana for eating. if they get that way i peel them and put them in the freezer to use in recipes like banana bread or in a pound cake.

Gee, I never heard about separating them. I am going to start doing that. I like my banana on the green side. What a great tip.

They won't stay green but it does slow down the ripening process

Re: A question about bananas.....

I have the opposite problem. Mine take forever to get really ripe. I use one every morning in a smoothie and they taste best in the smoothie when they are super ripe, almost to the point of being dark on the skin.
