I don't go out to eat (haven't since the pandemic) so I have no personal interaction with servers, but I still find mostly the grocery clerks are nice even with all they endure. I had to go to a specialist for something medically and the place my doctor sent me was rude. I personally went looking for another facility and one lady was so helpful and kind, didn't act cold because I came in just to ask questions. I sent her a thank you note and telling her she restored my faith in customer service again. I chose that place primarily on her assistance and kindness.
If you find someone especially nice and helpful, send them a note (a rarity in the world these days). I bet it would make their day.
I blame a lot of societal problems such as this on social media. The "look at me" attention seeking that everyone needs. Cliques, followers and hives. Not my style. I like my individuality.
I remember when I first signed up for Facebook, it was at the behest of a woman who took the same class I did. She told me I should sign up. What she wanted was a "following." I don't follow anyone. I was there for a year and was able to reconnect with old coleagues and some distant relatives. That was it! Social media has made people almost unable to be civil to one another in real time. This is jmho.
Of course people were rude way before social media but human behavior being what it is; whatever is going on in society seems become a free for all that everyone seems want to be part of. If they are doing it, I want to do it too.

Just in case you are not aware of this, I am not a lady. Judging from your "nic" (the name I was called as a young kid), you too are not a lady.
Have read enough of your posts to draw my own conclusion of your gender.
That aside, I have always lived a life, that is anything but sheltered. It is a very real, and out there, in all aspects of my life.
Gotta be careful when you generalize here. While a huge majority are indeed ladies, I/gardenman, and possibly you, are men.

There are so many gig jobs out there, so many innovative ways in which to work and make money. And you don't have to be face to face with a boss or customers who treat you like.. and if the customers do that, you can actually rate them accordingly. They might even lose the right to use the service.
It's 2022, not the 1940's or 50's.

Hckynut, good post. No one needs to make a general statement like that, saying everyone is "sheltered." How do they know?
Pizza Hut has some buffets, so they are coming back. A local restaurant also has a buffet along with regular service. I don't partake of buffets, as I prefer other kinds of service.

It is beyond me why anyone would be rude to a waiter/waitress especially now days as restaurants are suffering from employee shortages, including cooks and bus people.
What I think is we were a nation of instant gratification and had no food and no worker shortages. So we got good food and good fast service (mostly). Now when we do not get instant service and food we have turned into 2 year old kids that has had their favorite toy taken away and we throw tantrums.

I missed the general statement where someone said former servers have turned to a life of crime. I'm surprised they got away with that statement and got hearts for it? Rudeness seems to be at an all time high. I have a feeling this thread will also be shut down soon.

I wonder that all the time in every occupation. How do they get by not working?
I obviously can’t answer for everyone but I know of three individuals who left low paying service jobs and are now doing customer service for major department stores, health care companies etc online from their homes. They aren’t making a fortune but they are grateful for the stability and benefits they are receiving. They went through an online training period.
My niece is one of these people. She suffers from long term covid which has been slowly improving over the last year and a half. Single mom of two, always worked two jobs, her life was totally derailed. To see her doing better and proud to have steady employment is a great relief to me. She had been so scared and worried about her future and the implications out there that she was lazy or a malingerer was terribly demoralizing.
And no, “they” are not all unemployed just because they aren’t still serving you a meal in your favorite restaurant.

@kaydee50 The wait staff shortage seems to exist nation wide and I've wondered the same thing. Looking at the crime statistics, they're making more money sel!ing drugs and shop lifting.
I think some of them were frustrated with their jobs and decided to take it out on everyone around them like shooting up places. Another mass shooting in Bend, Oregon today @Kachina624 . That door you open swings both ways.
