A notorious company has filled for bankruptcy

I recently discovered that Tal depot has filled for Bankruptcy.  Those you who don't know, it's a company that sold tons of food and beverages for absurdly low prices.  The gimmick was that they took forever to ship (or not ship at all....keeping your money)  I first discovered them by accident and happily ordered 24 bottles of diet Snapple from them for $23.00 and free shipping, no tax, etc.  I received a notification that they shipped.  And waited, and waited.  Finally after 3 weeks, I started emailing them, etc.  They finally responded when I told them I had contacted my credit company.  They refunded my money eventually.  By then I had started to read the reviews from others.

The Better Business Bureau had even worse reviews.

I posted about my troubles with them here, and vowed never to buy from them again.  Some of the reviews are pathetic, but you jump at getting something cheaply.  i was lucky to get my moeny back, but some people lost hundreds of dollars.

@songbird As I started tiptoeing into Internet shopping long ago, one of the recommendations I read in the financial pages I like reading is to be very careful to whom you give your checks and card numbers.  I still hesitate to give my numbers to companies without a history of good business practices.   Your experience certainly proves that advice was good.

Glad you managed t0 get your dollars back!   (They probably didn't have enough $$$ left to repay people who had spent bigger amounts.  Sad!)

Hope they don't just start over with a new name and trap new shoppers!

You get what you pay for.

I found some high end skin care at absurdly cheap prices offered online. Many, many reviews said it was fake.

I think Tal depot started around 2013.  It started out well.  Then slowly, the shipping rate started to get slower and slower.  The company got resold to another place.  That's when to got very bad very quickly. the reviews finally killed them.  Anyone that read the reviews would immediately not to order and that nailed the company. I'm ashamed to admit, I didn't check out the company in the first place.  I know the owners names.  If another internet company pops up promising low prices AND free shipping.....well I'll check it and READ reviews.  I love diet Snapple, and some of the flavors are hard to find in stores.  I couldn't beleive my luck when I read I could get 24 bottles of Tropa Roca or Very Berry Snapple for $23-$26.00 & free shipping!   On Amazon, they average $40.00 a case of 24 and sometimes no free shipping.  But I trust Amazon....not this company!

Re: A notorious company has filled for bankruptcy

I learn something new every day @songbird  on this forum. I had never heard of Tal depot. I started ordering grocery products around 2004 from another company that shipped overseas and other than price received great service. I was reading the bio of this company and would see why they are filing for bankruptcy. The products (i.e snakes, sodas, and protein drinks) they offer seem to cater more to younger crowds (I could be wrong).

The moral of the story is don't order from such an unknown entity without googling for information.
