My husband and I went out to eat at our favorite locally owned restaurant tonight. You can eat in the dining room OR get take out.

So you eat in the dining area, then you go pay @ the counter in the front where people pick up take out.

While we were paying some well to do looking man was talking to the owner, trying to get his order. The owner said there's nothing here for you, but there is another restaurant 4 towns over with the same name but a DIFFERENT phone number and address (because the family owns 2 places, the other one run by other family members not the ones that run this one).

The owner said you must have ordered at the other one (many miles away).

The man says to the owner. Ohhh no that CANT BE! My CELL PHONE TOLD ME TO COME HERE!

Omg, I stood there while DH was waiting to pay, and DH and I were laughing so bad under our breath we were starting to choke.

This world is getting full of zombies. I mean use your brain!

Because according to the conversation this fellow lives around here. And the PHONE number to order his food would MATCH with the ADDRESS he was calling. Thus he would then go to the SAME address HE called! (It would be different if he was traveling from another area and unfamiliar with his surroundings).

I don't know what happened if he went to the other place or if this place accommodated him and made him food because we left while the guy was still freaking out blaming the CELLPHONE!

Um no not funny. I guess you had to be there. How heartless our society has become to laugh at someone else's honest mistake. Shame on you.

Let's not totally crucify Shorty on this. I've found her to be a delightful addition to our conversations. Let's give her a little slack -- we all make mistakes. No reason to pick her apart.

I totally understand what you are saying, Deb. I am a sensitive person, and that is why I felt so offended. I probably should of passed on commenting like I usually do. I don't come here often, and when I do I rarely comment. However, this thread really hit me hard. Yes, we all make mistakes, and that was my point and all the others. That is exactly why it rubbed us the wrong way. This poor gentleman was exasperated and probably a little embarrassed. I just couldn't understand why anyone would laugh at his expense or "mistake". Take care and have a blessed week!

You shouldn't precede a story that you think is hilarious by telling everyone it's so very funny, then you tell it. Funny thing is, not everyone will find it as amazing as you did. Often a lot is lost in the translation. Have you ever heard the phrase "you had to be there???"

No, not funny. I'd rather laugh with someone rather than at them. Maybe it's one of those instances where you would have had to be there to find it amusing.

I'm sorry, I don't find other people's misfortune funny. This story was anything but funny.

I don't see the funny part? Speaking for myself, if I know the name of a restaurant in my town and I where it is and I get the phone number and call and place my order.......I would assume I would have no reason to think I was calling a restaurant with the identical name, miles and miles away. Who would think that? That wasn't funny and I hope the restaurant gave the guy his meal on the house.

Well, Shorty, I don't think people here know you as well as I think I do.Smile

You have always struck me as a very nice poster and I DO understand what you were trying to convey on this thread. You see modern technology as something that can cause lots of mishaps and I think you weren't laughing at this unfortunate guy; rather you were pointing out the foibles of using a cell phone and the times we live in....

And yes, I GET IT.Smile
