My dogs have always followed me into the bathroom ( as have my children) or come running if they hear me going into the bathroom. I know one of my dogs associates it with going for a walk afterward, she keeps her head on my lap the entire time and looks at me with her big brown eyes. I shut the door when I am taking a shower. I have gotten used to not having privacy after all these years, its OK.

My dog does only if it's storming but then he's right on my heels wherever I go.

So, in a word yes, my cats come into the bathroom with me. I guess I'm a captive audience
My cats are that way too. One loves to barge in and the other likes to put her paws under the door. The other two only come in if I'm home alone and the door is wide open -- doesn't happen that often.

No, but my kids always did when they were toddlers.
I would say "Where's my privacy???!"
One day my daughter (about 2 years old) came in and looked behind the bathroom door and pulled the shower curtain back and said "Where's your privacy?" as though she were looking for an actual object.
Our dog (female Shepherd) is very shy about going to the bathroom. She goes all the way to the back almost behind a shed. If I happen to be out back and see her she looks at me almost with embarrassment. She is such a lady.
Our cat, female also, turns her back to you and if you happen to walk past the room she'll keep from eye contact as if to say "I don't see you--I don't see you!"

I had a Dalmatian that would follow me wherever I went, including to the bathroom. I also had a cat who loved water, and I had to make sure she was not in the bathroom when I showered; otherwise, she would jump between the wall and shower curtain to "join me."

Mine follows me every where. She is sitting on my shoulder as I type...it can be painful at times.
I feel bad because she will get up to follow me to the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room etc. an about the time she gets there...I am on to another room.

It was a thought I was pondering this morning because mine does, and so did the dog I had before, so I figured I cannot be alone. My puppy is quite humorous, even if she is sleeping or otherwise occupied, once she sees me get up to use the bathroom she follows me. Sometimes she is satisfied to know where I am and leaves, but other times she wants to stay there with me, and I have to tell her to get out. In the morning when I shower, she is constantly checking on me, sticking her head inside the shower curtain to investigate, and a bath is next to impossible unless I put her in her crate because she thinks she should be able to join me. Even my old, sweet dog would follow us around to the bathroom and sit all 60 pounds of himself outside the bathroom door, often blocking us in. We would have to knock on the door from the inside and gently shove it open to get him to move. What is it about our fur babies? Are they being protective or just curious?
Hi Jules,
Nope, none of our furry ones follow me into the bathroom. Why you say? Because I teach them at an early age that the bathroom is a private room for me only unless I leave the door open. Once in awhile when I am filling up water for their bowls or something along those lines, I leave the door open and they will come in on occasion. They understand the word "no" if they start to follow me on a "regular pit stop" or shower.
Now my wife? Whole different story. While our felines want nothing to do with being shut in while she is taking a shower, all the foster Boxers we have had living with us she takes with her during her showers. Guess canines are better or don't feel trapped like felines do when they are in enclosed areas for a good amount of time. Felines tend to not like being trapped in a limited amount of space where they cannot freely remove themselves.
I don't know about the canines but I certainly agree with whomever said "curiosity killed a cat".
Hope all is well with you and yours,

My large lab is always trying to get in the bathroom because he can lift the toilet bowl lid and drink from it - oh yes he can. Of course, he prefers that I am NOt in there so he can do his dirty work. Bathroom doors always shut tight. My sweet little terrier mix tries to be near me all the time. She will check if I am in the bathroom but she does not always have to be in there with me. She must sleep with me though. She has her own bed which she loves but it has to be in our bedroom. Had weekend guests and we slept in the guest room and she just was beside herself. Had to move her bed into the guestroom we were in.

It depends on the time of day. If I have just returned home I have visitors. If it's close to their dinner I have visitors. If the younger one wants some attention then he comes in. After all, he now has a captive audience! He stands on his back paws and bats at me with one front paw until he's getting his ears scratched. Sometimes they both start licking my legs/feet-and that drives me nuts.
If the door is shut I will see the younger one put his paw under the door. When I open the door I get the "How dare you?" look from him.
These are dogs. My cats never entered the bathrooms for some reason.
