@ID2 Because not every one has a wonderful story, because some have no real connection to someone else's military service, because if you move a lot or live in a very small space you need every inch for clothing and your items.

 

There is no shame in getting rid of things you can't use or don't love.  And that's just part of life.  I always think about how much it must cost now to move, how expensive housing is, etc.

Display it on a shelf to honor your father's service for now, then contact your local VFW. They know the proper way to dispose of it. If you haven't done so yet, see if any of your children want it first.

I think veterans groups take them. You know the veterans groups in local towns. They can direct you as well where to go if they can't take it
