I have NEVER received any E-mails from Facebook for anything. Maybe check your settings as to how you get notified of things. Just click on your profile pic in the top bar and a drop-down box has Account and Settings option.

Unfollowing is permanent until you change it and nobody is the wiser I have done this with family members that think facebook is a political platform.
@spumoni99 I've unfollowed a lot of FB friends and I read that they will never know. So that made it easy. That's what I like about Facebook. There are some I've snoozed for 30 days and when those 30 days are up, I decide whether to do so again.

I adjusted my settings also so I don't get any emails from Facebook either.
I use the Facebook and Messenger Apps, so when I get a Messenger message it appears as a notification on my app. Chats are similar to texts in the app.

To see messages you go to the facebook messenger.
@spumoni99 I think @Mindy D meant the friends of her friends. I've never done it but maybe she can unfollow friends of your friends.
I think you can only unfollow if your friends, not sure how she is seeing friends of her friends?
@spumoni99 I wonder if @Mindy D is talking about a Post that her FB Friend started and it popped over on her Page. So her Friend Friends are responding to the Post. That's what supposed to happen. The only way she could stop this is to unfollow all of her friends.

@Mom2Dogs wrote:@Mindy D I can not help about the friend thing on Facebook, I only have account to sell things - no interaction with 'friends'...cause I don't have any.
I do use messenger. Generally I am notified I have a message via email...then I go to facebook the messenger tab/buttoon at the top will be 'active' or have a check mark, a number...SOMETHING to let you know you have a message, just click on it.
I have used messenger when I cannot find the contact info for a company that I want to contact, I have found they are more responsive to facebook than an email. Hope I have not confused you!
@Mom2Dogs so do you sell at the Marketplace? I love FB Marketplace. We flip houses and have bought new appliances at half the price and never had any problems. We always correspond through Messenger.

@Sage04 ...I have sold a few things, local only.
It is so tempting not to buy. I see some really nice things as well as furniture I would love to clean up, and repaint or stain. I have NO room in my house for new furniture, but oh my, I can get lost looking at things. I have short window of time when I can paint or stain furniture outside...early spring or early fall. The air is not as humid. I can only work in the garage, I don't have a dedicated space for my habit.
I envy you...flipping houses....dh and I are the least handy people, could not flip a house to save our selves, but I sure would like to learn some things, just for fun and to learn how to do something valuable.
My dad built homes, sadly he died young and I had no interest at the time to ask important questions.
It is probably not fun if it is your profession!

@geezerette I try not to use Facebook on my phone, but if I get a Private Message, the person's profile pic pops up as a bubble on my phone and you can click on it.
HOWEVER, sometimes I get those when it's actually from someone who has cloned the person's account. Often, those may show up on my phone but not on my laptop depending on how they set up their page.

I don't use Facebook or Messenger on my phone. I only keep a minimum of essential apps on that.
The FB hacking seems to be rampant lately. I've had a couple of friends have their accounts compromised in the last week.

Go to their page. Click on the button that says "Following".
There will be a dropdown that says "Unfollow".
I often do this, or I get notified about every post and every single reply.
